Requirements
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program, is required.
  • A current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN/LVN in the state is required.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
  • All required continuing education and licensing must be maintained.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Review department policies, procedures, manuals, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing and support personnel.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain each resident’s total care regimen.
  • Participate in the nursing service quality assurance program and facility inspections conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with planning nursing services for discharge.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete associated forms, reports, census records, charge slips, and medical documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of user credentials and residents’ protected health information and report unauthorized access or disclosure.
  • Complete and file admission, transfer, discharge, accident, incident, and routine medical-record documentation.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians, transcribe orders to resident records and care plans, and ensure physician documentation is completed.
  • Chart nurses’ notes accurately and descriptively, sign and date medical-record entries, and report discrepancies in orders, diets, or charting.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments after verifying resident identity.
  • Maintain medication, narcotic, supply, and equipment inventories; review medication cards; report discrepancies; and dispose of drugs and narcotics according to procedure.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing needs, and recommend personnel dismissals or transfers to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Develop work assignments, provide leadership to assigned nursing personnel, conduct rounds, and report problem areas.
  • Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training and that trainees work under licensed-nurse supervision.
  • Meet regularly with shift personnel to identify and correct problems and improve services.
  • Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts and report occupational exposures, fraud, and information-security incidents.
  • Inform personnel about admissions, prepare rooms, greet and orient residents and families, and coordinate admission activities.
  • Make physician rounds, arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services, consult physicians, review charts, and implement nursing objectives and standards.
  • Check that treatments are administered properly and evaluate residents’ physical and emotional status.
  • Provide or supervise catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, range-of-motion exercises, and other professional nursing services.
  • Use restraints, monitor seriously ill residents, check dietary compliance, and ensure care follows resident care plans and wishes.
  • Notify physicians and next of kin about accidents, incidents, or changes in resident condition.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs and arrange transportation and escort for discharged residents.
  • Follow post-mortem procedures, notify families of resident deaths, and contact funeral homes when requested.
  • Develop, plan, conduct, and schedule in-service training and implement orientation for new employees.
  • Assist with clinical supervision of nurse aide trainees, standardize work methods, and train personnel on blood and body-fluid exposure risks.
  • Attend outside training, facility in-service programs, advance-directive training, and continuing education.
  • Monitor safety practices, infection-control procedures, hand hygiene, protective-equipment use, fire and disaster drills, and sanitation of assigned areas.
  • Maintain adequate medication, medical-supply, equipment, and personal-protective-equipment stocks and ensure safe equipment operation by trained personnel.
  • Review resident care plans daily, communicate needed changes, ensure nursing notes reflect care-plan compliance, and assist with Minimum Data Set assessments and care-plan revisions.
  • Provide data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee and report suspected fraud involving false billing, cost reports, or kickbacks.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
