Requirements
  • Bachelor's level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in biological sciences
  • A Bachelor's degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required
  • Experience in a biological/health research capacity is required
Responsibilities
  • Assist and support scientific investigation to study HIV vaccine development and viral-associated comorbidities as directed in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity
  • Independently conduct assigned experiments
  • Perform flow cytometry and immune phenotyping, computational analysis, epigenetic profiling and chromatin assays, molecular biology, and cell culture research techniques and procedures
  • Sort and process tissue and blood samples
  • Test and evaluate current procedures
  • Perform routine procedures on lab animals including surgical procedures and/or administration of drugs
  • Record, consolidate and assist with analysis of research results
  • Assist in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
  • Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Prepare research progress reports
  • Assist principal investigator with preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts
  • Conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities
  • Assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment
  • Monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with low cytometry and immune phenotyping, computational analysis, epigenetic profiling and chromatin assays, molecular biology, and cell culture research techniques and procedures
  • Experience with animal handling and husbandry
