Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology or Diagnostic Imaging Program is required.
- CPR and Basic Life Support certification are required.
- The candidate must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and certified in the primary modality, or obtain this certification within one year of hire.
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience is required.
- The candidate must be able to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- The candidate must be able to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- The candidate must be able to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- The candidate must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- The candidate must be able to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and examine MRI scan orders to understand requested procedures, the patient's condition, and any special notes or comments.
- Ensure orders are appropriate for the physician-recommended examination, notify the supervisor of discrepancies, and contact the physician's office for corrected orders when necessary.
- Identify patient service requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual patients and other relevant persons.
- Verify patient identity using the patient's name and date of birth in the electronic medical record and on the wristband, and obtain necessary consents and provide education.
- Perform complex specialized tasks associated with operating MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and age-appropriate standards of practice under radiologist direction or supervision.
- Integrate diagnostic and laboratory results, patient history, and medical records, and adapt examinations as necessary while adhering to MRI protocols.
- Assist in positioning patients for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
- Maintain aseptic technique using universal precautions, including hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, and equipment disinfection.
- Assist the radiologist with imaging procedures, start intravenous lines, and inject contrast when applicable.
- Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images in exposure sequence, label images appropriately, and film or transmit images to the picture archiving and communication system.
- Adhere to regulatory guidelines governing the modality, including Joint Commission, Agency for Health Care Administration, American College of Radiology, Florida Department of Health, and Food and Drug Administration/Mammography Quality Standards Act requirements.
- Assist with day-to-day department operations.
- Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
- A Florida state license as a General Radiographer is preferred.
