Job Description Summary
The Emergency Department Psychiatric Social Worker (MSW) reports to the Social Work Manager of the Institute of Psychiatry. Under clinical practice guidance of the Social Work Manager, this position provides a wide variety of direct social worker services in an acute care psychiatric setting for a complex caseload of pediatric patients including psychiatric consults, psychosocial assessment, discharge planning, case management, group therapies, and related documentation in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
This position identifies risk factors that the patient may experience after discharge and applies discharge interventions to lower the patient risk of an undesirable event post discharge. The Social Worker (MSW) bridges the discharge to outpatient provider with the patient to address issues and questions.
This position will work with a multi-disciplinary team in the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital Emergency Department (SJED) with our pediatric population in need of psychiatric evaluation. This position will also work in our pediatric EmPATH unit once it is opened. Cross coverage in the Adult Psychiatric ED (DPOD) & Adult EmPATH as needed.

Additional Job Description
Education:
Master’s Degree in Social Work or Social Welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensure by the South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners required.
Additional requirements:
Requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Demonstrates ability to collaborate in a positive, professional manner with medical professionals. Requires ability to work in a thorough but efficient manner.
