Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree is required.
  • A minimum of three years of senior health system pharmacy leadership experience in a progressive, complex health system overseeing multiple locations is required.
  • Seven years of progressive work experience leading pharmacy operations in a hospital and health system is required.
  • A pharmacist license in Florida, or eligibility for Florida licensure with the license obtained within 90 days of hire, is required.
  • Expert working knowledge of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Public Health, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Institute for Safe Medication Practices, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services medication-related and pharmacy practice standards and metrics.
  • Knowledge of inpatient and hospital-based outpatient pharmacy operations, pharmacy automation, workforce planning, inventory management, operational pharmacy policies and procedures, drug shortage management, and medication diversion programs.
Responsibilities
  • Participates in setting the strategy, planning, implementation, and development of pharmacy operations practices, policies, and procedures for acute care sites across Orlando Health.
  • Collaborates with hospital leaders, site pharmacy leaders, nursing leadership, and physicians to drive contemporary pharmacy business operations.
  • Oversees system-level, operations-based pharmacy and pharmacy regulatory meetings.
  • Coordinates operational pharmacy services and programs to obtain desirable patient outcomes through safe, appropriate, and cost-effective pharmacy services, promoting standardization and advancing pharmacy practices.
  • Assists the Chief Pharmacy Officer and the AVP of Hospital Pharmacy with developing and implementing pharmacy strategic initiatives designed to optimize patient care and enhance cost effectiveness.
  • Oversees the operations of all inpatient pharmacy services across the health system.
  • Advances patient care services by promoting pharmacy best practices through the creation and adoption of emerging technologies and innovative services.
  • Implements and manages pharmacy automation systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in medication management.
  • Ensures the integration of pharmacy services with other clinical and operational functions within the health system.
  • Maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to pharmacy operations.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices.
  • Conducts regular audits and assessments to identify and address compliance issues.
  • Supports the development and helps pharmacy directors manage annual operating and capital budgets for pharmacy services.
  • Monitors financial performance and implements strategies to achieve financial goals.
  • Optimizes resource allocation to maximize cost savings and improve patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Pharmacy Officer and other senior leaders to develop and implement strategic initiatives for pharmacy services.
  • Identifies opportunities for innovation and improvement in pharmacy operations.
  • Prepares and presents reports to executive leadership on the performance and strategic direction of pharmacy services.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination within the pharmacy team and with other departments.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops pharmacy leaders and staff.
  • Participates in the development and execution of monitoring metrics for quality and safety, operational efficiency, clinical effectiveness, and financial performance.
  • Ensures the implementation, alignment, and standardization of pharmacy initiatives, operational policies, procedures, and related forms in the hospital-based practice setting.
  • Manages complex interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships to assure collaboration and effectiveness.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Health Administration, Master of Business Administration, or Master of Science degree is strongly desired.
  • A Florida Consultant Pharmacist license is preferred.
