Requirements
  • MD or equivalent and an Emergency Medicine Residency Certificate.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in clinical and academic Emergency Medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical records, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • ABEM or ABOEM board certification or board eligibility.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification if not yet board certified; this is no longer required once board certification is obtained.
  • Current Advanced Trauma Life Support certification, completed at least once even when board-certified.
  • A current unlimited Oregon medical doctor license or equivalent before the start date.
  • Completion of the credentialing process and approval by the OHSU Professional Board to practice independently in an acute care or emergency setting.
  • Registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and authorization to prescribe medications before the start date.
Responsibilities
  • Act as an attending physician in the Emergency Department, including the emergency department observation unit and Pediatric Emergency Services, as assigned by the Chair.
  • Participate in education of medical and paramedic students, house staff, and nurses.
  • Participate in Emergency Department quality assurance activities.
  • Provide online medical consultation.
  • Evaluate and diagnose patients presenting to the emergency department with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition.
  • Perform patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Initially treat emergency department patients and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries.
  • Stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and assess all patients to determine whether additional care is necessary.
  • Perform administrative and other duties assigned based on department needs and areas of expertise and interest, including potential participation in departmental management and service on institutional committees.
