Requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent advocacy skills.
  • Experience with spatial analysis using geographic information systems or similar software.
  • Experience with statistical analysis using SPSS, R, SAS, or similar software, including qualitative and quantitative research analysis.
  • A Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license at the start of appointment.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out research within the scope of established study protocols while adhering to human subjects regulations defined by Yale University and the federal government.
  • Develop criteria for admission of study subjects based on project goals and objectives.
  • Determine potential sources of funding and prospective partnerships.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of potential projects by analyzing staffing needs, resource requirements, financial costs, and current group capacity.
  • Negotiate contracts and contract changes with funders, consultants, and service providers.
  • Develop original Institutional Review Board submissions and collaborate with investigators on major revisions and scientific protocols.
  • Plan and implement changes to research protocols.
  • Develop forms and questionnaires, apply research techniques, and write procedures manuals for data collection and coding.
  • Document and transmit study data, ensuring that report forms are accurately completed in a timely manner at each site.
  • Independently develop, manage, and organize databases and multi-site studies.
  • Coordinate between the University, non-Yale collaborators, the Institutional Review Board, and funding sources.
  • Perform spatial mapping and descriptive and multivariate statistical data analyses using computer software.
  • Design and implement quality control measures for accurate data collection and processing.
  • Contribute original analysis to written reports, abstracts, and manuscripts.
  • Organize the New Horizons in Conservation and other research convenings.
  • Update and maintain the website.
  • Supervise student research assistants.
  • Design, plan, implement, and evaluate complex multifaceted research projects and systems, including method development, adaptation, and validation.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator to define research endeavors and develop research hypotheses and approaches.
  • Solve complex methodology, protocol, procedural, and research problems by designing techniques, procedures, and policies that achieve research goals.
  • Develop long-range plans for laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Investigate, analyze, and evaluate complex data, data collection systems, and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensure research data integrity.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator to coordinate major laboratory renovations with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing, ensuring deadlines, safety standards, and purchases comply with plans and budgets.
  • Prepare scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
