Requirements
  • A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse program.
  • A current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse in the state.
  • The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; read technical procedures; comprehend policy and procedure manuals; present information; respond to questions; and communicate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • The ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of residents.
  • The ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, and of laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure that assigned nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with nursing and support personnel, and provide leadership to personnel assigned to the unit or shift.
  • Review department policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, and nursing procedures, and recommend revisions when needed.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services with resident services and other departments to maintain each resident’s total regimen of care.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, facility surveys, discharge planning, and the development and maintenance of nursing service procedures.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents; complete related records, forms, reports, and documentation.
  • Maintain census reports, resident charge slips, medical forms, evaluations, studies, charts, and other administrative records.
  • Protect resident and facility information by safeguarding user IDs, passwords, and protected health information, and reporting unauthorized access attempts.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe physician orders to resident charts, medication cards, treatment plans, and care plans.
  • Chart nurses’ notes, accidents, incidents, resident responses, diet changes, transfers, and other required medical-record entries accurately and timely.
  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians, verify resident identity, maintain medication supplies, and ensure narcotic records are accurate.
  • Review medication cards and physician orders, notify the appropriate supervisor or physician of discrepancies and automatic stop orders, and dispose of drugs and narcotics according to procedure.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing needs, develop work assignments, report absences, and make staffing recommendations to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Make daily rounds, monitor nursing personnel’s work, address problem areas, and ensure that nursing assistants and trainees work under appropriate supervision.
  • Conduct or participate in staff meetings, orientation, in-service training, continuing education, and clinical supervision for nurse aide trainees.
  • Provide and coordinate resident nursing care, including admissions, physician rounds, treatments, medication, diet, rehabilitation, restorative care, monitoring, and changes in resident condition.
  • Perform clinical services including catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing and bandage changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital signs, range-of-motion exercises, and care of dying residents.
  • Maintain resident care areas and treatment areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
  • Implement infection-control, hand-hygiene, safety, disaster-preparedness, isolation, personal protective equipment, and hazardous-condition reporting procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate medication, medical supply, equipment, and personal protective equipment inventories.
  • Review and update resident care plans, ensure care-plan compliance, and assist with Minimum Data Set assessments, Resident Assessment Protocols, and triggers.
  • Report suspected fraud, occupational exposures, accidents, incidents, hazardous conditions, and other safety or compliance concerns to the appropriate administrator or supervisor.
  • Communicate with residents, families, physicians, staff, visitors, government agencies, and support departments to coordinate resident needs and services.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. He previously held CFO roles at Capital Senior Living Corporation, managing 128 communities across 23 states, and Belo Corp. He succeeds Mark Hancock, PACS's co-founder and executive vice chairman, who will retire by 30 June 2026 whilst remaining on the board as vice chairman. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. PACS Group, a leading post-acute healthcare platform, has appointed Dr Patrick Conway to its board of directors. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
