Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of administrative experience is required.
  • The ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously is required.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in coordinating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges for the ages of patients served to support smooth and efficient patient flow.
  • Organizes and maintains patient medical records according to medical-record policies and procedures.
  • Checks charts for patients scheduled for surgery or other special procedures to verify completeness of orders, consents, laboratory results, and signatures, and makes copies as appropriate.
  • Promptly answers patient call lights and notifies appropriate personnel; initiates a face-to-face response when necessary.
  • Uses the computer system independently to verify orders, reviews new orders on PAL, responds promptly to priorities, and completes consults accurately.
  • Receives and delivers information in a timely and accurate manner and immediately notifies the registered nurse of diagnostic results called to the unit.
  • Reviews the HUC audit form for compliance and reports non-compliance to the charge nurse or director.
  • Completes and maintains documentation related to unit activities, including time and attendance, patient assignment sheets, and current census.
  • Restocks medicine cupboards, nurse servers, and filing drawers with appropriate supplies and forms.
  • Orders, delivers, transports, receives, and returns supplies from ancillary departments according to departmental standards.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations such as code 69 and acute-care transfers.
  • Maintains whiteboards in patient rooms and at the nurses’ station when assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
