Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Five years of related experience and/or a minimum of six months of training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to operate a touchscreen computer program.
  • The ability to read, understand, and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to follow written, verbal, or diagram-based instructions and apply common-sense understanding to carry out tasks.
  • Basic reading and writing skills, including the ability to read instructions and memos and write simple sentences.
  • The ability to remain seated for extended periods while visually monitoring logs and operating equipment controls with a joystick and push-button functions.
  • The ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl when assisting with saw changes or equipment changeovers.
  • The ability to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to work around moving mechanical parts, machinery vibration, airborne particles, lubricants, fumes, electrical hazards, wet or humid conditions, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions.
  • The ability to consistently use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats, and respiratory protection when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Operate quad saw equipment safely and productively.
  • Monitor saw operation and lumber flow from the quad saw to the trimmer, watching and listening for variations that may indicate equipment or production issues.
  • Change saws as required and inspect quad saw equipment daily.
  • Inspect equipment for broken hoses, damage, or other potential issues and perform general machine inspections each day.
  • Identify equipment or operational problems and report concerns to the Team Leader, Supervisor, or Maintenance as appropriate.
  • Monitor the computer system to verify the correct species and ensure information clears properly through the system.
  • Operate touchscreen computer controls and monitor system messages, alarms, and machine warnings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Communicate with other machine operators to support safe and efficient production flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
