San Marcos' newest H-E-B outpost will open Wednesday with barbecue, giveaways and more. By Rhyma Castillo, San Antonio Express-News The Tribune Content Agency Updated October 6, 2026 7:15 PM Gift Article San Marcos shoppers have a new place to stock up on groceries, grab barbecue and, apparently, start their mornings very early. H-E-B is opening its newest San Marcos store at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, bringing a 114,000-square-foot grocery store to 1074 E. McCarty Lane, just off Interstate 35. The new location is San Marcos' third H-E-B outpost and the grocery chain's latest addition to the fast-growing I-35 corridor. It also brings a first for the city: a True Texas BBQ restaurant. Customers can expect the in-store barbecue bastion to serve H-E-B's signature smoked meats, including brisket, along with sides like brisket beans, creamed corn and homestyle potato salad. The restaurant will have indoor seating, so shoppers can turn a grocery run into a barbecue run without ever leaving the store. The store will also include H-E-B staples such as a bakery, tortilleria, deli, meat and seafood departments, Sushiya sushi and Meal Simple prepared foods. Customers will also have access to curbside pickup, home delivery and a drive-thru pharmacy. For opening day, H-E-B is starting the party before sunrise, according to the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce. The grand opening celebration begins at 4 a.m. with free coffee, goodies and a DJ, followed by 5:45 a.m. performances from San Marcos High School's Diamond Dance Team, Drumline and Mariachi Band. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony 6 a.m. sharp, after which doors will open to customers. The first 250 customers in line will get free hats and goodie bags, while the first 100 Curbside customers will get free hats. And yes, there will be barbecue and seafood demonstrations at 11 a.m., along with an appearance from Texas State mascots Boko and Koko from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. - because if there's one thing H-E-B is going to do, it's go all out for a grand opening event. H-E-B buys land for store near downtown Fort Worth. Location in Overland development expected to open in late 2028 Share via: H-E-B has purchased more than 20 acres at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard in Fort Worth, Texas, where it plans to build a store serving the southwest side of the city. The store, according to the Oct. 2 announcement, will sit within Overland, a 250-acre master-planned community that is part of the Edwards Ranch, which has been family owned since 1848. Cassco, the Edwards family's development arm, has developed the land since 1956 for neighborhoods and mixed-use projects including Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park and Tanglewood. Construction is set to start early next year, with the store expected to open in late 2028. H-E-B said the store's design, inside and out, will reflect the character of the surrounding community, with additional details to be shared as plans develop. "For years, customers have asked us when a new H-E-B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon," said Stephen Butt, president of H-E-B shareholder relations. "The Edwards family has always been forward thinking and very patient as they have successfully developed legacy properties to serve the neighborhoods of west and southwest Fort Worth," he added. "We are honored to partner with H-E-B, a beloved Texas institution whose deep connection to its customers and neighborhoods closely reflects our own values of thoughtful development and investment in the Fort Worth community," said Crawford Edwards, president of Cassco. "H-E-B has earned the trust and loyalty of generations of Texans, and we look forward to the meaningful role they will play in the Overland community for years to come." H-E-B opened its first Fort Worth store in 2024 as part of its continued push into the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. San Antonio-based H-E-B, the largest privately held employer in Texas, operates 460 stores in Texas and Mexico with more than 175,000 partners and sales of more than $50 billion, serving more than 300 communities.
