Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing
  • Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) RT(S) or RT(VS) upon hire
  • One certification within abdominal (RDMS, AB), OB/GYN (RDMS, OB/GYN) or vascular (RVT, VT) upon hire; the other two certifications must be obtained within twelve months of hire
  • Two years of recent modality experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic sonographic imaging through the application of non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves for patients of all ages
  • Perform ultrasound studies (i.e. obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retroperitoneal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular)
  • Consult with referring physicians regarding patients' medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis
  • Review charts, previous reports and requisition prior to the exam
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation
  • Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam
  • Assist with scheduling of patients and schedule all emergency patients for diagnostic ultrasound procedures
  • Monitor all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations
  • Perform preliminary research on patients when preparations are not provided and determine priority of patients based on the daily schedules
  • Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS
  • Complete after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork
  • Immediately report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator
  • Process billing via radiology information system (RIS)
  • Ensure proper function of ultrasound equipment and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions
  • Adequately supply exam rooms with linen and related medical supplies
  • Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents and in-service education of caregivers
  • Assist with orienting new caregivers to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols
  • Demonstrate ultrasound equipment for caregivers and visitors
  • Potentially rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations
  • Assist in new investigative techniques, procedures and equipment
  • Maintain the most up to date knowledge in the field through self-motivated education and attendance of appropriate conferences and symposiums
  • RDMS must be maintained and in good standing
  • If working within the Imaging Institute, perform non-invasive vascular studies to include veins, arteries, pulse volume readings and assist the physician during invasive studies

Cleveland Clinic partners with Luminai to automate healthcare workflows after $38M Series B

Cleveland Clinic has partnered with Luminai, a San Francisco-based AI startup, to automate complex administrative healthcare workflows. The collaboration coincides with Luminai's $38 million Series B funding round, bringing total capital raised to approximately $60 million, with backing from Peak XV Partners, General Catalyst, Define Ventures and Y Combinator. The health system, which employs over 80,000 staff across 23 hospitals, selected Luminai to address administrative burdens that account for roughly a quarter of US healthcare spending. Initial deployment focuses on referral management, where Cleveland Clinic processes thousands of daily faxes requiring manual review and routing. "The goal is to reduce administrative burden and allow our caregivers to focus on patient care," said Rohit Chandra, Cleveland Clinic's chief digital officer. The partnership reflects growing pressure on health systems to modernise operations whilst managing workforce shortages and rising costs.

Cleveland Clinic performs first US surgery with Medtronic's FDA-cleared Hugo robotic system

Medtronic has announced the first US commercial surgery using its FDA-cleared Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system, successfully performed at Cleveland Clinic by Dr Jihad Kaouk. The robotic-assisted prostatectomy patient was discharged the following day. The Hugo RAS system features a mobile footprint with modular arms designed to address operating room scheduling challenges and infrastructure limitations. The system aims to expand access to minimally invasive surgery, which offers benefits including reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays and decreased recovery time compared to open surgery. Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Hospital and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center are among the first US hospitals to install the system. The Hugo RAS system is available in over 35 countries. Medtronic plans to expand indications beyond urology into gynaecologic and general surgery procedures.
