OpenTable is an online platform that connects diners with a wide range of restaurants for reservations. Diners can browse restaurants, read reviews, explore menus, and book tables, all through the site. Restaurants gain access to a booking tool that helps manage reservations and optimize seating. Diners use the platform for free, while restaurants pay a subscription to be listed and may incur additional charges based on the number of reservations processed through OpenTable. OpenTable also benefits from being part of Booking Holdings, which provides a large network and infrastructure. The company’s goal is to make dining easier by helping people find and reserve tables and by giving restaurants a simple way to manage bookings and grow their business.

OpenTable has unveiled its largest suite of product features for restaurants, with over 20 new and enhanced tools powered by AI and automation. The San Francisco-based restaurant technology company is focusing on three priorities: driving demand, turning insights into action, and connecting systems. Key features include integrations with major AI platforms like Google, ChatGPT, Microsoft's Copilot, and Perplexity. These integrations drove 17 times more seated diners year-over-year, with new diners spending 20% more on average compared to other channels. The company's AI Concierge has 500,000 monthly active global users. New Table Automations have completed over 2 million automations during testing, saving operators 4.5 hours monthly on average. OpenTable's partner ecosystem includes over 200 integrations, with point-of-sale partner adoptions increasing 40% year-over-year. The platform has seated 3 million diners through voice AI partners, representing a 270% increase in 2026.
HeyGuest has partnered with OpenTable to help restaurants manage missed booking opportunities through AI-powered communication tools. Research shows 43% of restaurant calls go unanswered during normal operations, with 60% of missed calls relating to revenue-generating inquiries like bookings and takeout orders. The integration allows restaurants to automate guest communications across phone, webchat, email and social media whilst managing OpenTable reservations in real time. Guests can book, modify or cancel reservations instantly through AI without increasing pressure on restaurant staff during peak service times. The partnership makes HeyGuest's technology available to more than 65,000 restaurants, bars and hospitality venues using OpenTable worldwide. The platform is built by iovox, which has facilitated over $1.3 billion in dining revenue in the UK over the past decade.
Square has expanded its partnership with OpenTable to integrate restaurant reservations, payments and guest data into a unified system. The enhanced collaboration builds on their 2022 point-of-sale partnership and addresses the industry challenge of managing disconnected systems. The integration combines OpenTable's guest insights — including booking behaviours and dining preferences — with Square's transaction data, such as order details and payment methods. This allows restaurant operators to view complete guest profiles, link reservations to revenue and make informed decisions about loyalty and marketing programmes. The partnership now serves restaurants across the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland and France. Future enhancements will focus on faster onboarding, smarter reservation workflows and deeper integration of loyalty and payment experiences. OpenTable, part of Booking Holdings, serves over 70,000 restaurants worldwide.
You can now book restaurant tables directly inside ChatGPT via Yelp. Aug 11, 2026 OpenAI expanded ChatGPT by integrating direct restaurant reservations and waitlists through partnerships with Yelp, OpenTable, and Resy. Available across the U.S. and Canada, the feature lets users search for dining options and secure tables within their chat, though any post-booking modifications or cancellations must be managed directly on the respective provider's platform. OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT from a conversational research tool into an active hub for everyday local tasks. Building on an existing partnership established in July that allowed the chatbot to display ratings, reviews, and photos, OpenAI has deepened its ChatGPT integration with Yelp while also bringing in Resy and OpenTable. The update allows users across the U.S. and Canada to book restaurant tables or join live waitlists directly within an ongoing chat window. Video Muted How in-chat bookings work. The new capability tackles a major friction point in local discovery by bridging recommendation and action. Instead of asking ChatGPT for dining ideas, closing the app, and launching a separate platform to check availability, users can complete the entire process in one place. The system leverages real-time availability from restaurants connected to Yelp Guest Manager, OpenTable, and Resy to secure spots instantly. The integration, however, has a clear boundary. You can book a table or join a waitlist via the chat, but if you want to change or cancel a booking, the chatbot can't do that. Users must manage those changes directly on the partner platform's app or website. The broader battle for AI local search. This feature rollout highlights a broader industry shift toward AI-powered task completion. According to Morning Consult research cited by Yelp, nearly two-thirds of respondents (65%) say being able to take direct action - such as making a reservation - is essential when using AI tools for local discovery. Trust is still a big concern, however, with 72% of consumers saying that AI platforms should always cite their sources. For review platforms like Yelp, embedding booking tools into their AI interfaces could help them stay relevant. Yelp already supplies data and task-completion features across platforms like Apple Maps, Amazon's Alexa+, Microsoft Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo!, while holding a 3.4x lead in organic citations for home services over competitors across major AI platforms. Meanwhile, OpenAI's expanded lineup directly counters competing AI assistants. Google's Gemini already handles restaurant reservations through Reserve with Google via OpenTable. Plus, Microsoft Copilot offers similar OpenTable integrations. Ultimately, OpenAI's goal is to keep users locked into its ecosystem for their entire local dining journey.
Navan, the AI-powered business travel and expense platform, has partnered with OpenTable to integrate restaurant discovery and booking into its Navan Edge service. The collaboration aims to simplify dining arrangements for business travellers by incorporating OpenTable's reservation system directly into Navan Edge's chat-driven interface. The integration offers location-aware restaurant suggestions based on travellers' itineraries and preferences, personalised recommendations drawing from past reservations and dietary restrictions, and proactive booking reminders for popular venues. Future updates will include automatic adjustments for schedule changes and access to OpenTable's private and group dining platform for booking private rooms and large tables. OpenTable works with over 70,000 restaurants globally and facilitates 2 billion reservations annually.
