Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years minimum of customer service skills required
  • BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • M.A.B. certification required; new hires must obtain within 6 months of hire
Responsibilities
  • Acknowledging patients or guests and their requests
  • Appearing professional in dress, grooming and hygiene
  • Assists in the training of new employees
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to the rights of patients and significant others, as identified within the situation
  • Documents any financial arrangements made in the patient’s account notes
  • Notifies the Admitting Manager or Business Office Manager of all problem accounts that require special attention
  • Exhibits concern, tact and discretion in all working relationships
  • Functions with an awareness of safety issues and reports unsafe issues appropriately, as identified within the institution
  • Upholds the highest service standards regarding patient care
  • Makes patients’ needs the first priority
  • Cross-trains in Inpatient, Outpatient, Bed Board, and Emergency Room
  • Familiar with the Hospital layout to direct patients or guests to proper destination
  • Physically able to push a wheelchair
  • Willing to meet staffing needs and be available to work overtime, holidays, and shift changes
  • Remains informed and compliant with HIPAA, EMTALA, Fair Debt and Collection Practices Act, Medicare Secondary Payer, and other laws and regulations governing Patient Financial Services
  • Remains informed regarding PPO, HMO, Medicare, Medi-Cal and indigent service programs and requirements for timely processing of claims
  • Offers assistance promptly, cordially, and completely
  • Patient care is the utmost priority in all aspects of registration; comfortable with sick patients and able to summon medical assistance; BLS certified each year
  • Patient valuables monitored in accordance with Hospital policy and procedure
  • Performs various other duties as assigned
  • Promotes unity and teamwork among co-workers and other departments
  • Handles all confidential information appropriately at work and away from the facility
  • Completes patient’s electronic medical record and ensures paperwork is sent to proper destination timely
  • Obtains Advance Directive information from inpatient, ER, OPS, and bed patients; enters accurate data in computer and on Conditions of Admission
  • Speaks with patient about financial responsibility; collects deposits on self-paying patients and co-payments from insured patients; makes financial arrangements as needed; completes promissory note when necessary
  • Collects all patients related information to produce a complete and accurate patient admission record; includes choosing correct medical record numbers, gathering current patient data, photocopying insurance and identification cards, obtaining authorization, obtaining signatures, and ensuring accurate insurance and demographic information
  • Understands and participates in organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and inter-departmental quality control and quality planning
  • Understands Consent form, Advance Directive, and other forms; ensures patients are well informed before signature
  • Meets department productivity goal of registering a minimum of 20 patients per shift; performs registrations timely within 20 minutes; maintains account accuracy rate of no less than 80%
  • Completes and prints shift logs in the Emergency Department
