Requirements
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the state of employment or status as an LPN applicant.
  • BLS certification is preferred upon hire and required within 30 days and/or before independent patient care.
  • Medical Assistant certification is required for the Certified Medical Assistant track, including Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Nationally Certified Medical Assistant, or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant credentials, subject to South Carolina acceptance rules.
  • High School/GED is required for the Certified Medical Assistant track.
  • In South Carolina, completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education program, an approved health sciences program, a military medical assisting program, a Department of Labor-approved registered apprenticeship, or an employer-delivered program aligned to a nationally accredited certification exam is required.
  • Applicants must be able to take and document vital signs, monitor patient conditions, document medical records, administer medications or vaccinations within scope, and communicate patient conditions to medical professionals.
  • Applicants must use universal precautions, personal protective equipment, and infection-control policies.
  • Applicants must meet the role's physical requirements, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, standing, walking, and maneuvering patient weight.
  • Applicants must be able to perform required clinical and administrative tasks, including electronic health record documentation, patient messaging, scheduling, telephonic triage, and standard office equipment use.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze assessment data, evaluate patient conditions, and collaborate with providers to develop and maintain patient care plans.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and staff members under the direction of the provider or manager.
  • Coordinate patient care with other healthcare entities according to the patient's care plan.
  • Administer medications safely in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and state requirements.
  • Take and document vital signs, room patients, and monitor patients during in-office treatments.
  • Document patient medical records accurately and appropriately.
  • Manage patient messages and communications, including in-basket and MyChart messages.
  • Schedule tests and appointments and perform telephonic patient triage.
  • For the Certified Medical Assistant track, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform routine laboratory tests, provide prescription and refill information as directed, explain treatment instructions, clean and sterilize instruments, dispose of contaminated supplies, and perform general office duties.
  • Assist providers and patients with virtual health visits, including platform setup, pre-charting, patient preparation, troubleshooting, health-maintenance checks, and medication review.
  • Perform front-desk workflows such as patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check-in, and check-out when needed.
  • Follow up on orders, appointments, referrals, laboratory and diagnostic tests, and follow-up visits; collect co-pays as needed.
  • Order supplies, track referrals and tests, and maintain clean, orderly, safe, and functional work areas and equipment.
  • Lead LPNs serve as clinical and professional mentors and subject matter experts within the practice.
  • Travel to other facilities for providers or adjust hours to meet patient-care needs as directed by the practice manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of clinical patient-care experience for the LPN track.
  • One year of recent Medical Assisting experience for the Certified Medical Assistant track.
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record training or experience.
  • Completion of an externship or clinical laboratory training.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education program outside South Carolina.
  • BLS certification upon hire for locations where it is preferred.

Steel work begins on $1.2B Roper St. Francis heathcare campus in South Carolina. * Posted on July 22, 2026 The Barton Malow | Edifice joint-venture team has begun structural steel work at Roper St. Francis Healthcare's future Roper Hospital campus in North Charleston, South Carolina, marking a pivotal milestone in the construction of the $1.2-billion facility. The start of steel work signals the project's transition from below-grade construction to its vertical rise, bringing the building's form to life on the 27-acre site. The new campus, designed by E4H Environments for Health Architecture (a MOREgroup Brand) and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, will deliver 805,000 square feet of advanced healthcare space for the Lowcountry community. The building will include 328 inpatient beds, a 47-bay emergency department, 44 critical care beds, 18 operating rooms, a comprehensive imaging department and a 12-bay hemodialysis unit. Completion is targeted for 2029. Barton Malow | Edifice is using a target-value delivery method, which allows the team to adapt design components while maintaining budget and schedule integrity. The approach has been instrumental in navigating site-specific challenges, including complex seismic conditions, FAA height restrictions and a high-water table.
