Requirements
  • A completed high school diploma plus specialized courses of up to six months.
  • A Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification with Level A or C CPR from an Alberta-approved training provider.
  • Incumbents with a Social Work diploma or degree must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including frontline work in a social service setting.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attentive listening and observation of body language, with the ability to monitor and read the environment.
  • The ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, keyboard use, and familiarity with databases.
  • Demonstrated trauma-informed care, non-violent crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills.
  • The ability to pack and lift resident belongings.
  • The ability to stand for long periods, conduct walkabouts inside and outside the building, and walk up and down stairs.
  • The ability to continuously monitor the environment, security cameras, and client interactions while recording information, with integrity, confidentiality, professional ethics, fairness, and flexibility.
Responsibilities
  • Handle resident admission, orientation, and evaluation according to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Enforce policies and guidelines while providing guidance to residents.
  • Conduct respectful resident intake interviews, obtain and record information, communicate expectations, and complete basic goal setting.
  • Monitor incoming traffic, verify resident identification, and follow safety protocols.
  • Liaise with Spiritual and Religious Care team members, internal referral sources, and external agencies such as welfare, police, parole, the DOAP Team, and the PACT Team when needed.
  • Store and record resident medication, tools, and gear according to policies and procedures.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties and foster a clean workplace culture.
  • Provide linen and assistance to residents as needed.
  • Receive resident concerns professionally, direct residents to resolution avenues, and complete required documentation.
  • Handle resident calls and messages according to policy and privacy legislation.
  • Work with program team members to support best practices and efficient service delivery.
  • Provide mediation during resident conflicts to prevent or resolve altercations.
  • Monitor late passes and address non-compliance.
  • Uphold policies and procedures and seek internal or external support, including Calgary Police Services or Emergency Medical Services, when required.
  • Provide and reprogram resident identification cards according to program guidelines.
  • Review policies, procedures, program guidelines, information, and resident forms, and suggest changes as needed.
  • Conduct property and grounds inspection, safety, and wellness checks according to policies and procedures when required.
  • Provide support for other program positions when required.
  • Record day-to-day events accurately, maintain logbooks, and complete occurrence reports.
  • Handle finances relating to occupancy fees, meal tickets, and receipts when required.
  • Communicate with co-workers and Resident Support Team Leaders at shift change regarding bed availability and resident information.
  • Read day-to-day communications and record pertinent information and significant events in the communication book.
  • Complete program documentation, including meal lists, communication books, occupancy fee receipts, behaviour contracts, notices, incident reports, emergency evacuation reports, and TPW reports.
  • Attend scheduled program staff meetings.
  • Demonstrate stewardship of organizational resources, including timekeeping and program supplies.
  • Assist at the laundromat and with Program Aid duties at the Men’s Shelter when required.
  • Assist with linen laundry at the Women’s Shelter when required.
  • Attend case conferences when necessary.
  • Maintain daily and monthly program statistics.
  • Assist the Resident Support Team Leader with weekly tool and medication cabinet audits.
  • Coordinate, record, and distribute weekly food hampers.
  • Prepare required incident reports.
  • File inactive and archive files annually.
  • Audit resident files according to procedures and accreditation standards when required.
