Trustmark expands net interest margin to 3.84% and cuts nonperforming assets by 47% after $73.8M mortgage sale

Trustmark Corporation completed a major core deposit system conversion in Q2 2026, migrating from a 45-year-old legacy platform to a modern vendor-supported system. The bank reported a net interest margin of 3.84%, supported by low-cost deposits and disciplined loan production. The company sold a $73.8 million delinquent mortgage portfolio, reducing nonperforming assets by 47.3%. The transaction resulted in a $3.2 million net income increase. Loan growth was driven by $643 million in new originations, offset by $652 million in commercial real estate prepayments and payoffs. Management expects the September rate hike and efficiency gains to offset conversion-related costs in the second half. The bank plans to reduce temporary staffing by approximately 50–55 positions through attrition. Capital deployment priorities include organic growth and share repurchases, with renewed interest in M&A following the technical conversion.
