Requirements
  • At least one year's experience as a Survey Helper in heavy highway and bridge projects.
  • Previous experience with survey instruments.
  • Ability to communicate in English through verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to move throughout a construction jobsite, including navigating minor obstacles, climbing ladders and inclines, operating heavy equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and report unsafe activities to the supervisor or Human Resources.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical activity involving strenuous daily work of a primarily productive and technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items and work with the fingers, and ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions, including rain, sun, snow, and wind.
  • Ability to work in conditions involving extreme cold, extreme heat, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and loud noise.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a required drug screen for selected candidates.
  • Successful completion of a medical examination for selected field-position candidates.
Responsibilities
  • Complete tasks using survey instruments and equipment under the direction of the Survey Party Chief.
  • Maintain and properly care for survey instruments and equipment.
  • Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using hand tools.
  • Lift, carry, and manually transport construction materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
  • Mix and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
  • Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
  • Perform routine non-machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling sections of pipe.
  • Perform machine tasks such as tamping soil, jackhammering, and assisting with pipe fusion.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills.
  • Assist with other operations designated by the supervisor when not performing the listed essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three or more years of related construction experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
