Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or equivalent; Master’s Degree preferred
  • A valid Arizona Department of Education Counselor Certification OR Valid State Teaching Certificate from any state; AZ Preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching, academic coaching, social-emotional counseling, and/or college-going support for students
  • Experience with innovative technologies and online learning highly preferred
  • Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Bilingual, a plus
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to up to 200 students until they graduate high school.
  • Closely track students’ progress, through communication and analytics, to ensure student progress. Collaborate and provide communication with students, families, and instructors.
  • Work intimately with ASU Prep counselors to provide personalized support to students and families.
  • Communicate goals, performance reviews, and areas for improvement with families.
  • Conduct workshops and ongoing support on best practices for student success.
  • Provide individualized support to students based on identified risk factors including academic, socio-emotional, and other potential issues, and helps to develop individual plans for success.
  • Counsel and advise students by phone, email, text and other available online technologies.
  • Work with students to ensure a solid academic plan and ensure continued enrollment.
  • Facilitates personalized applications of learning (PALs) and develops performance assessment rubric with students and teachers.
  • Train and support teachers on successful student support.
  • Act as a leader in building students’ transition between ASU Preparatory Academy and the university, establishing connections for students and families to be engaged in post-secondary opportunities and the community.
  • Provide counseling on college and career preparation and resources at key points in support with College Going Advisor prior to graduation.
  • Support to students with all aspects of the college admissions process.
  • Engage local communities to provide interactive, meaningful opportunities for ASU Prep students that will prepare them for, and can be directly applied to, their post-secondary education chosen pathway.
  • Develop, implement and refine enrichment opportunities that engage students and families within the community, universities and outside organizations in avenues such as internships, community service, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and services, across the school to understand processes, systems, and services and to resolve student issues.
  • Resolve problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implement solutions; escalate unresolved problems. Follow up to ensure resolution of each issue.
  • Proper and thorough documentation of interactions and processes as they evolve.
  • Participate in school meetings, trainings and committees, as scheduled.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Thorough working knowledge of college admissions processes.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Proficiency with technology, computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using the internet and social media websites.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
