Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A minimum of 2 years of current acute medical/surgical or equivalent related nursing experience.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and expertise in the care of seniors and their families.
  • Demonstrated interest in ongoing nursing education and active participation in intensive care unit research initiatives.
  • Willingness to learn special procedures approved for Registered Nurses in the critical care area in accordance with Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Critical Care Standards.
  • Maintaining required certifications.
  • Ability to organize related activities, remain flexible, adapt to crisis situations and rapid change, and function effectively in cooperation with all disciplines of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, leadership, teamwork, and assessment skills.
  • Availability for the total orientation program at the scheduled time.
  • Good attendance and work record.
  • A resume detailing further education, special courses, and relevant experience should accompany the application.
Responsibilities
  • Function within the professional scope of practice defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Regulated Health Professions Act.
  • Use the nursing process to deliver critical-care therapies and nursing care to patients requiring critical-care services.
  • Incorporate critical-care standards and competencies into nursing practice as outlined by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nursing, and the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Participate as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in ongoing research and patient advocacy.
  • Provide direct patient care.
  • Participate in ongoing education.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic arrhythmia interpretation.
  • Current acute or critical care nursing experience.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification and Critical Care certification.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training.
