Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential is required.
  • A certified ultrasound technician credential is required.
  • A medical assistant certificate is required.
  • The employee must work independently and as a team member.
  • The employee must demonstrate mature judgment, initiative, and critical thinking.
  • The employee must be able to relate to diverse communities and physically assist patients in distress.
  • The employee must be able to physically transport patients from the procedure area to the recovery room.
  • The employee must be able to read and implement written instructions.
  • The employee must demonstrate strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • The employee must comply with infection-control, safety, and emergency guidelines.
  • The employee must be able to work flexible hours and locations within PPOSBC as required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound examinations according to agency protocols and abortion protocols for pregnancies up to 24 weeks.
  • Provide accurate sizing and dating of pregnancies and communicate ultrasound findings that may affect service provision.
  • Provide intraoperative ultrasound, including locating intrauterine devices for removal, verifying device placement, guiding pregnancy termination, and guiding intramniotic digoxin administration.
  • Perform basic laboratory work, including hemoglobin testing, pregnancy testing, and urine dipstick testing.
  • Process and package specimens for outside laboratory testing, record laboratory results, and triage abnormal results.
  • Obtain vital signs, including blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Clean and sterilize equipment and prepare and stock examination and procedure rooms.
  • Assist nurses, clinicians, and doctors during medical and surgical procedures, including providing ultrasound guidance and assistance with Laminaria and digoxin administration.
  • Conduct patient visits and options counseling for pregnancy-test visits.
  • Obtain medical histories; interview, counsel, and educate clients; and ensure informed consent.
  • Provide options and abortion education, schedule appointments, and refer patients for follow-up medical services.
  • Connect patients to electrocardiogram, blood-pressure, and pulse-oximeter equipment before procedures and transport patients to the recovery room afterward.
  • Translate medical-provider instructions and ensure that patients understand post-procedure care.
  • Counsel and educate patients about reproductive healthcare, including contraception, emergency contraception, and abortion services for patients up to 24 weeks.
  • Schedule appointments and assist clinical staff with family-planning services, including contraception and abortion services.
  • Establish rapport with clients and respond to their medical and educational care needs professionally and efficiently.
  • Prepare the center for opening and secure it for closing as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting is desirable.
  • Experience in reproductive health, managed or primary healthcare, and/or abortion services is desirable.
  • Electronic medical records experience may be required.
