Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of nursing.
  • Hold a current West Virginia nursing license.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date for Medical/Surgical, Operating Room, and Emergency Department assignments.
  • Obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date for Operating Room and Emergency Department assignments.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in acute care nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Be able to care for multiple patients.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical assessment skills.
  • Perform motor coordination and manual dexterity tasks.
  • Meet the physical demands of heavy or hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Work closely with others, during prolonged or irregular hours, around biohazards and infectious diseases, with or near the deceased, with hands in water, and near electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Manage individualized, goal-directed nursing care using the nursing process and principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Apply current nursing theory, principles of care, and nursing policies and procedures while performing age-appropriate patient-care functions.
  • Maintain a safe and clean care environment.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Supervise nursing assistants.
  • Contribute consistently to department operations and communications.
  • Assess and diagnose patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Develop, discuss, and communicate a realistic problem list and plan of care for each patient in collaboration with the patient, family, or significant other.
  • Implement the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures necessary for patient care.
  • Evaluate identified problems, care provided, and patient responses to meet patient and family needs and ensure overall quality of care.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided for integration by the healthcare team.
  • Maintain current knowledge, certifications, and licensure.
  • Function as a role model for current and new staff.
  • Perform responsibilities and duties required by the unit within the scope of service.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hold Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
  • Have one year of direct patient-care experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
