The newly launched FOX One direct-to-consumer streaming service exceeded subscriber acquisition expectations. Fox CEO refuses to renegotiate NFL deal early, holds firm until 2029 opt-out window

Fox Corporation is refusing to renegotiate its NFL media rights agreement before the league's 2029 opt-out window. CEO Lachlan Murdoch said the company will wait until closer to the 2030 season to discuss the contract, which runs through 2033 but includes a one-time termination option after 2029. The decision protects Fox from immediate cost increases but leaves the broadcaster vulnerable to competition from streaming platforms. Netflix has expressed interest in pursuing NFL rights when they become available. Fox's latest quarter showed revenue rising 28% to $4.21 billion, with advertising sales up 78% driven by the FIFA World Cup. Adjusted EBITDA increased 27% to $1.20 billion, though higher sports rights costs offset some gains.
