  • Hold a valid, unencumbered license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Be eligible for approval by the California Board of Registered Nursing as an instructor for Medical-Surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, community health, or geriatrics.
  • Have a master's degree from an accredited college or university that includes coursework in nursing, education, or administration and academic preparation for the subject taught to be considered as Assignment Faculty.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and current enrollment in a master's program may be considered for a Clinical Teaching Assistant.
  • Have a minimum of four years of experience, including one year within the last five years, as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.
  • Have clinical experience within the last five years; clinical teaching in a registered nurse program applies toward direct patient care.
  • Be clinically competent as defined in California Code of Regulations Section 1420(c).
  • Have expertise in at least one of the following nursing areas: mental health, medical-surgical, geriatrics, pediatrics, labor and delivery, community health, or critical care.
Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical-site, skills, and simulation education to students enrolled at the assigned Workforce Development Program site.
  • Provide education in the skills lab and/or clinical setting in accordance with the established curriculum and faculty expertise.
  • Plan and supervise student clinical experiences in assigned healthcare facilities.
  • Evaluate student performance in relation to clinical learning outcomes according to the policies and procedures established by Unitek College's Department of Nursing.
  • Provide timely feedback on clinical performance or specific events after observation.
  • Maintain student records, including accurate clinical and skills-lab attendance and completed skills check-off forms, and assist with requested programmatic outcome data collection.
  • Ensure clinical assignments meet both student and facility needs.
  • Determine the best methods to observe, instruct, and evaluate students.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Acquire and use online activities as enhancements to course content and materials during interactive teaching and learning, as needed.
  • Submit required program reports and forms to the Academic Site Director in a timely manner.
  • Keep current with innovative technologies and safety regulations.
  • Participate in committee activities supporting the mission and function of the nursing program, as needed.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Provide students with ongoing communication through office hours, electronic communication, or another appropriate method.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have one year of experience teaching nursing-related courses or have completed a course that includes practice in teaching nursing.
