Requirements
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Standard First Aid certification.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • ORFA Recreation Facility Cleaning, Disinfection and Sanitization Principles certification, or willingness to obtain it upon hire.
  • Ability to solve problems and work as part of a team to develop solutions.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Valid Class G driver's licence and a clean driver's abstract.
  • Previous similar experience with facility housekeeping in an institutional setting.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in adverse climates, operate noisy equipment, and occasionally work alone.
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily and weekly facility, operational, and housekeeping tasks, including cleaning equipment repairs, sweeping, mopping, burnishing, disinfecting, dusting, and spot cleaning inside and outside specified Town facilities.
  • Set up and tear down activity areas for events.
  • Pick up litter as required.
  • Assist in training new custodial staff as required.
  • Liaise with the public and user groups to accommodate rentals, provide assistance, and monitor functions to ensure workplace and provincial regulations are followed.
  • Assist with summer shutdown work in the facility according to work plans.
  • Maintain a logbook tracking completed work and maintaining proper records.
  • Follow emergency, operating, and safety procedures, including safe chemical handling and storage, evacuation plans, and first aid within the level of competency attained.
  • Perform duties in compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Recommend cost-effective solutions to operational issues.
  • Make recommendations to the Facilities Supervisor regarding procedural issues.
  • Follow Town policies and procedures.
  • Provide facility maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping services at other Town buildings as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor or Manager of Parks and Facilities, including the Cemetery Office and Museum.
  • Assist with horticultural work, including planting, weeding, maintaining, and watering flowerbeds.
  • Work 40 hours per week to meet the needs of indoor and outdoor customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
