Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Manager Engineering Sciences 1 for our Elkton, Maryland location.
The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) location in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Roles and Responsibilities
Inspection Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for managing the Specialized Inspection Team
Provides guidance to the Specialized Inspection team, ensuring products and services meet the highest standards in accordance with the NG Quality Management System
Ensures the inspection tools, equipment and process control documents adhere to NG quality standard
Works with cross functional management to support the manufacturing and testing of product
Able to identify and resolve quality related issues expeditiously and proficiently
Drive continual improvement though Lean Manufacturing principles
Calibration Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for managing the Calibration Lab
Provides guidance to the Calibration Team
Supports maintaining the calibration, verification, and certification of inspection, measurement, and test equipment
Responsible for developing and improving calibration processes for load cells, pressure transducers and electrical test equipment
Manages the creation, review, approval and execution of calibration procedures
Ensures calibration records are completed and monitored for accuracy and completeness
Communicates with the Specialized Inspection Team and Calibration Team on a regular basis to ensure the adherence to Northrop Grumman’s Values and Leadership Behaviors
Success in this role will require sound judgment, innovative thinking and excellent interpersonal/management skills to plan, motivate and accomplish goals through your staff.
Basic Qualifications:
BA + Five years exp; MA + 3 years’ experience in an inspection and/or calibration role. A minimum of 9 years’ experience required in lieu of a degree
Ability to effectively lead a diverse group of workers while exemplifying Northrop Grumman Leadership Behaviors.
Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands
Strong communication, coordination, and organizational abilities
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance which requires U.S citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Secret Clearance
Associate Degree, BS Degree in STEM highly preferred.
Knowledge processing steps, process flows and associated environmental health and safety requirements
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, Solumina CostPoint or similar systems and related computer skills
Quality related certifications such as Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification
Previous management experience
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
Salary Range: $93,100.00 - $139,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
