Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience developing production-quality robotics, embedded, or distributed systems software.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C++, with experience working in Linux-based environments.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS2 or similar middleware communication frameworks.
  • Familiarity with sensor integration and data handling for GPS, IMU, radar, lidar, or acoustic systems.
  • Knowledge of networking, message serialization, compression, and constrained-bandwidth communication strategies.
  • Experience working on systems deployed in field environments with intermittent connectivity or limited compute resources.
  • Excellent debugging, testing, and documentation practices for distributed software.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain system software responsible for sensor control, data capture, and stream management across a variety of hardware types.
  • Extend our inter-process messaging frameworks using ROS2.
  • Optimize network utilization and compression strategies to ensure artifact delivery over constrained uplinks (e.g., satellite).
  • Integrate and synchronize inputs from GPS, IMU, radar, lidar, acoustic, and other sensors to provide structured outputs for downstream perception and tracking.
  • Build and maintain software modules for managing and configuring peripherals, including SDRs, cameras, and other edge devices.
  • Collaborate with AI and backend teams to define data formats, delivery schedules, and observability hooks for remote model and sensor performance.
  • Develop tools for local testing, diagnostics, and system-level monitoring of Smartmast units in the field.
  • Contribute to performance tuning, process reliability, and logging systems to support unattended long-duration operation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bonus: Experience with SDR programming, marine or aerospace deployments, or high-reliability IoT systems.

Quartermaster AI Inc. builds a distributed maritime sensor network that uses vessel-mounted sensor arrays with HD video, geolocation, and edge compute transponders to create a real-time picture of global ocean activity. Its AI models analyze video and sensor data to detect suspicious at-sea activities and threats, delivering visuals and insights through a hardened satellite link. The system turns civilian and commercial ships into persistent sensing nodes that collectively provide continuous maritime domain awareness for coast guards, navies, insurers, and researchers. The goal is to improve safety, security, and environmental oversight by providing timely, verifiable intelligence that supports rapid, coordinated responses.

What believers are saying

  • Secured $8.27M federal contracts by March 2026, including DoD award FA714623C0021.
  • Recent March 25, 2026 contract under NAICS 541330 shows sustained defense demand.
  • Hiring AI and satellite experts signals scaling for diverse NAICS opportunities.

What critics are saying

  • Aptima's QUARTERMASTER tool confuses customers and dilutes Quartermaster branding now.
  • Anduril's Lattice erodes Quartermaster's market with $1.5B DoD contracts in 6 months.
  • DoD Replicator prioritizes drone swarms, sidelining vessel sensors in 2026 budgets.

What makes Quartermaster unique

  • Quartermaster transforms civilian fleets into persistent maritime sensing layers using vessel-mounted SmartMast sensors.
  • Edge AI models on vessels deliver real-time HD video and geolocation for threat detection.
  • Founded by Neil Sobin in 2023, focuses on chain-of-evidence intelligence for coast guards.
