Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an Assistant Manager role handling a United States mortgage underwriting team, either live or post-close.
  • Strong knowledge of United States mortgage operations, process management, team handling, performance monitoring, and risk controls.
  • Strong understanding of the United States mortgage lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of the four Cs: credit, capacity, capital, and collateral.
  • Good knowledge of mortgage operations, live or post-close underwriting, quality controls, and risk management.
  • Understanding of operational metrics such as productivity, quality, turnaround time, service-level agreements, and capacity planning.
  • Strong team leadership and people-management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within tight deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day operations for United States mortgage underwriting processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned activities.
  • Monitor workflow, productivity, turnaround time, and service-level agreements to ensure operational targets are consistently achieved.
  • Allocate work across the team based on volumes, priorities, and employee capabilities.
  • Ensure smooth operations and proactively address bottlenecks and escalations.
  • Lead, guide, and support a team of operations professionals to achieve business and client objectives.
  • Monitor individual and team performance and provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance guidance.
  • Conduct team meetings, communicate process updates, and ensure employees are aligned with business expectations.
  • Identify skill gaps and coordinate with training and quality teams to address development needs.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning activities.
  • Ensure processes comply with defined standard operating procedures, client guidelines, and applicable United States mortgage regulations.
  • Monitor quality metrics and work with the Quality Assurance team to identify recurring errors and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for operational issues and develop preventive and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure proper documentation and adherence to audit and compliance requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and process information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, accuracy, turnaround time, and overall process efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through process standardization, automation, and workflow optimization.
  • Analyze operational data and trends to identify gaps and recommend solutions.
  • Assist in implementing new processes, systems, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, clients, and cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery of mortgage operations.
  • Handle operational escalations and ensure timely resolution of client or process-related issues.
  • Participate in client calls and business review meetings as required.
  • Communicate operational performance, challenges, and improvement initiatives to management.
  • Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports covering productivity, quality, turnaround time, service-level agreements, and other key performance indicators.
  • Track team performance against defined targets and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Maintain accurate process documentation, standard operating procedures, trackers, and operational records.
  • Provide regular updates on business volumes, resource requirements, risks, and operational performance.
  • Identify potential operational risks and implement controls to mitigate them.
  • Ensure adherence to data security, confidentiality, and information-handling policies.
  • Escalate critical issues and process risks to senior management in a timely manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and other relevant United States mortgage guidelines.
  • Experience with mortgage workflow systems, operational dashboards, and learning management system or workflow tools.
