Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required.
  • At least 8 years of experience planning, executing, and evaluating strategic communications campaigns is required.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage complex, innovative projects.
  • Ability to learn internal tools, processes, and systems quickly.
  • Ability to synthesize complicated issues and topics into clear, concise written materials and verbal scripts.
  • Ability to use communications to influence decisions and opinions.
  • Ability to lead the design and execution of communications campaigns that increase brand awareness and align with enterprise brand strategy and brand architecture.
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and editing skills are required.
  • Experience with digital, social media, and strategic communications.
  • Knowledge of creative design tools, including Canva, Clipchamp or other video-editing tools, PowerPoint, Microsoft operating systems, and artificial intelligence tools such as Copilot.
  • Knowledge of the media landscape and how to draw media attention and coverage.
  • Ability to build relationships with media, external and internal stakeholders, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Experience engaging multicultural media outlets and communicating effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple systems and optimize strategies and tactics.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of communications strategies tailored to target audiences across multiple channels.
  • Develop message frameworks from message research and refine messaging for organizational consistency.
  • Use internal and external communication platforms to convey complicated content through storytelling, illustrations, and other accessible formats.
  • Produce or collaborate on communications products by designing, writing, editing, and publishing content across social, digital, earned-media, and owned channels.
  • Develop and execute integrated communications and marketing plans while providing day-to-day communications and marketing support.
  • Identify opportunities for public and media relations, thought-leadership initiatives, social media, and digital tools that support program objectives.
  • Act as the day-to-day project manager for departmental communications efforts.
  • Develop project timelines, coordinate deliverables, measure and report program results, perform research, deliver findings, and use segmentation data.
  • Plan, organize, and implement special projects with cross-functional teams, including determining scope, tracking milestones, establishing timelines, and evaluating progress.
  • Establish project communication plans and keep internal and external stakeholders informed about project processes and impact.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support internal and external events, forums, and convenings.
  • Develop event communications strategies, messaging, and materials, and coordinate logistics, timelines, speakers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Support and engage volunteers in communications activities aligned with state-plan goals and communications priorities.
  • Develop relationships with key media outlets and establish strategic media partnerships to raise organizational visibility.
  • Serve as a media spokesperson when needed.
