Responsibilities
  • Lead a security culture, including crisis response, a strong safety environment, and crowd management planning, while supporting guests and team members.
  • Implement daily and weekly Assets Protection workload priorities to support business priorities and deliver goals.
  • Respond to external and internal theft incidents and prevent future theft.
  • Implement strategic resolutions of external theft and fraud and apprehend individuals attempting to cause a loss in accordance with Target policy and leadership guidance.
  • Partner with, educate, and support store business leaders on operational shortage priorities.
  • Lead a team of hourly team members, including interviewing, developing, evaluating, and retaining talent.
  • Deliver guest experience commitments and create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience.
  • Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers Target guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
  • Observe team members, provide feedback, hold them accountable, and recognize strong guest experience performance.
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics, identify opportunities, take improvement actions, align the team on behaviors and execution, celebrate wins, and drive results.
  • Support total store sales and profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available to guests.
  • Welcome and engage guests at the front of the store and on the sales floor.
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes, participate in emergency crisis response, and create security plans for in-store events.
  • Support store leaders in educating teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills and expertise under the direction of the direct leader.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support talent planning through clear expectations and performance management.
  • Identify theft and shortage trends in the store.
  • Identify shortage risks in key areas and support leaders in developing tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales.
  • Work a schedule aligned to guest and business needs based on security and theft patterns, including early morning, overnight, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Develop team schedules and adjust them based on security and theft trends with leader validation.
  • Own prevention, including merchandise protection budgeting, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents; resolve theft and conduct apprehensions while following policy and procedures.
  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve internal investigations as directed by the Assets Protection leader or direct leader.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution with key partners.
  • Implement and follow up on operational changes directed by the direct leader.
  • Support the direct leader in educating and supporting store teams on operational shortage priorities.
  • Order merchandise protection devices as needed to support store standards, review and manage the allocated budget, and follow merchandise protection best practices.
  • Communicate Assets Protection priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Build a relationship of trust and accountability with the leader and Store Director.
  • Maintain relationships inside and outside Target, including district and store leaders and law enforcement.
  • Ensure teams and tactics maintain Target’s reputation.
  • Collaborate with retail organization partners to analyze industry trends and enhance security for guests and team members.
  • Evaluate and recommend candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team at the direction of the direct leader.
  • Support team onboarding and learning and close knowledge and skill gaps through training and experience.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and compliance, lead the team accordingly, and hold others accountable.
  • Hold team members accountable to expectations set by the direct leader.
  • Maintain all required training.
  • Serve as the first responder for in-store safety incidents, including security and weather incidents, by executing Target procedures and best practices.
  • Lead and demonstrate best-practice execution through team onboarding, learning, development, coaching, and team interactions.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Lead and demonstrate a safety culture by modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards with store leaders, holding the team accountable to safety expectations, assisting with incident response, and reporting and investigating injuries accurately and promptly.
  • Execute safety program management routines such as monthly safety meetings and observations.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as necessary to represent Target’s interests.
  • Model physical security processes to enhance the in-store security culture.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store, including storage and application as directed by best practices.
  • Address store needs, including emergencies and regulatory visits.
  • Perform other duties based on business needs.

  • Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience is preferred but not required.
