Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration and at least 3 to 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with complex datasets including demonstrated high-level of understanding of data structures and relationships; ability to use query and reporting tools, such as databases to manage complex data reporting requests; ability to access and manipulate data from a variety of computer platforms and databases.
  • Detail-oriented, demonstrate sound judgement, and strong prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Excellent forecasting, planning, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sophisticated reasoning skills and ability to interpret established policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and concisely in both written and verbal formats with a broad range of staff across the University.
  • The ability to work effectively with a team, with high ethical standards including confidentiality.
  • Ability to solve problems of moderate and complex nature and provide in-depth analysis and recommendations to management.
  • Self-starter with problem solving capabilities, critical thinker, able to investigate root causes and recommend solutions based on qualitative and quantitative data from a variety of sources.

Responsibilities
  • Direct responsibility for a portion of the provost’s central budget, managing budget-to-actual variances and reporting of this activity.
  • Overseeing institutional specific use accounts, and various other revenue and expense flows.
  • Ensuring accurate tracking and reporting, providing narratives on variances, and ensuring that all financial activities align with institutional goals and financial plans.
  • Focusing on enhancing and creating reconciliations to ensure clarity in accounting and budgeting between Cornell, the State of New York, and SUNY.
  • Responsible for the development of robust process controls and documentation for all SUNY allocations (not just 1R funds), and ensuring that data submitted to external sources, like SUNY and the State of New York is accurate, timely, and fully compliant with reporting requirements.
  • Managing the distribution of professional and graduate tuition, ensuring that tuition disbursements are in accordance with established policies and aligned with the approved budgets.
  • Overseeing the annual LTIP (Long-Term Investment Pool) load, ensuring the proper accounting and reconciliation of related financial transactions.
  • Managing complex, multi-faceted financial processes with precision and accuracy while working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Cornell systems including but not limited to Kuali Financial System, Workday, Peoplesoft and Longview.
  • Experience with Tableau and Tableau Prep.
  • Prior experience working in higher education.
