  • At least 5 years of demonstrated, relevant work experience in media relations, campaign, issue advocacy, agency, political or other relevant settings
  • Robust network of political press relationships and extensive experience pitching the media and building new relationships on a regular basis
  • A deep understanding of earned media management and political news, and a creative approach to garnering press coverage
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to turn around press product under extremely tight deadlines
  • Well organized with the ability to prioritize across multiple projects and deliver results under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to progressive causes and equity
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within team settings
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, strong problem-solving, and creative thinking skills

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with political press and local reporters in target districts
  • Drive earned media outreach by proactively pitching national and local stories across verticals
  • Develop proactive press strategies to anticipate and respond to activity in Congress and hold members accountable
  • Ideate and execute creative campaign tactics that help drive earned media and shape the public discourse on key issues
  • Manage a comprehensive media monitoring operation to identify opportunities and respond to the news cycle quickly and effectively
  • Support the development of comprehensive campaign communications plans, working collaboratively with the Communications Director to identify and consult on short, medium and long-term strategies that will help us achieve our program goals
  • Consistently book spokespeople and surrogates for broadcast and podcast interviews
  • Write and distribute regular written press products including statements, press releases, fact sheets, and other materials as appropriate
  • Organize and execute regular press events and rallies in D.C. and in target districts nationwide
  • Help develop, grow and engage our council of storytellers; create ongoing press opportunities to elevate constituent voices
  • Brief talkers and spokespeople to deliver talking points
  • Leverage polling and other tools to sharpen and strengthen the narrative
  • Manage and coordinate with colleagues across levels and expertise
