Ground Software Manager @ Muon Space

About the role

Muon seeks a Ground Software Engineering Managerto join our Ground and Data Software team. The ideal candidate is a capable people manager and has experience organizing and directing complex software projects throughout a complete lifecycle from concept to delivery and ongoing operations. Our team broadly owns all the software systems that enable Muon to communicate with our satellites and process payload data into end-products, including infrastructure, networks, and applications like mission control software, data pipelines, and customer-facing APIs.

This role may be remote or located at our headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Responsibilities

Guide a team of software engineers that are developing Muon’s ground software systems
Recruit and plan for an organization that will scale to meet the demands of the business as it grows
Hire new team members to build the capabilities and capacity of the team
Be the driving force behind having a technically excellent engineering team by mentoring team members and setting high standards
Translate high-level mission concepts into the team’s requirements, development strategy, and goals. Communicate these goals inward and outward.
Collaborate closely with our Flight Software, Operations, Systems, and RF teams to resolve design strategy and requirements ambiguity
Create an inclusive, collaborative, and team-oriented culture that fosters high productivity and opportunities for growth
Identify and implement processes, tools, and infrastructure that help accelerate our design and development effort
Own the end-to-end development from product concept to delivery to customer/market
Excitement to tackle diverse opportunities week to week

Qualifications

B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience
3+ years direct management experience of 5+ people
7+ years experience on high performing software teams
Demonstrated ability to drive a high-performing technical team
Experience owning complex software systems from design through to production
Proficiency in common programming languages such as Python, Go, or C++
Experience building and executing on technical roadmaps
Excellent communication and presentation skills

Nice-to-have Skills

Experience with networking, Linux systems, and common cloud provider environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Familiarity with Information Security best practices
Experience smoothly deploying continuously evolving data services to customers

Salary

The salary range for this role is 95K-190K and will depend on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
