Requirements
  • A minimum of four to seven years of related registrar experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in a museum studies program, or equivalent experience working in museum collections management.
  • Familiarity with laws pertaining to cultural property, ownership, custody, transfer, and disposition of works of art, and with best practices, standards, and ethical standards in the field.
  • Collections management database experience, with TMS required.
  • Computer proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Acrobat.
  • Ability to complete a Security Threat Assessment application.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods, use computers and other office equipment, perform physical administrative duties in an office, gallery, or exhibit environment, and access most public and staff areas of the museum campus.
  • Ability to lift no more than 50 pounds and perform minor lifting and bending.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the registration and accession process for objects accepted into the museum's permanent collection and deaccession processes in accordance with legal requirements and museum policy.
  • Create, organize, and maintain legal documentation, contractual forms, and retrieval systems associated with acquisitions and the collection, including accessions, bequests, promised gifts, and deaccessions.
  • Prepare quarterly Collections Committee reports and Board Reports for approval meetings.
  • Review and approve acquisition proposals and support coordination of proposals with the Deputy Director of Collections and Exhibitions.
  • Arrange and coordinate artwork transfers to and from the museum, including transportation, couriers, security, insurance, unpacking, storage, and related details.
  • Manage incoming long-term loans and generate receipts, loan agreements, and other applicable legal museum forms and documentation.
  • Enter information into the collection management system, TMS.
  • Conduct collections inventories, including spot checks.
  • Oversee installations in historic park houses, the Rodin Museum, and other museum sites as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating large-scale reinstallations of the permanent collection galleries.
  • Assist in preparing budgets for packing, shipping, and insuring loans.
  • Perform other duties related to collections documentation, care, inventory, and movement.
  • Uphold professional standards and protect and enhance the museum's reputation and standing within the museum community.
  • Adhere to the museum's code of ethics, Employee Handbook, protocols, procedures, rules, and policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest.
  • Show respect for coworkers and visitors and support the diversity of the museum's staff, volunteers, and audiences.
