Job Description
Serve as the Research Program Manager for the MUSC Health Research Center (Catawba Division) which acts as the point of contact for research operations related to assigned programs and projects. Primary responsibilities of the candidate are focused on providing direct support and guidance to physicians, collaborating faculty, and staff as it relates to pre and post-award activities, principal investigator (PI) research portfolio oversight and management, and reporting. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to, overseeing the daily operations of the research laboratory, supervision and performance management of applicable laboratory personnel, oversight of development and implementation of new protocols and troubleshoots challenges, and the analysis and communication of data. This position is responsible for assisting with the development and submission of grant applications to include budgeting, as well as post-award involvement in financial management and reporting.
As the administrative leader of the research center, the person holding this position is viewed and must operate with a substantial amount of autonomy and be willing to use sound judgment while adapting to a regularly changing environment that at times can require assistance that is outside their routine responsibilities. Accuracy, quality assurance, customer service, and effective communication are important requirements as this position engages with a wide range of individuals both internally and externally. Success will be measured by the impact this individual has on the research programs and projects under their purview. This position will have a matrix reporting structure with the Division’s Director and Administrator.
Daily and Ongoing Operations:This position is responsible for oversight of the lab’s daily and ongoing operations with the overarching goal of achieving the strategic research goals and priorities of the Division Director.
PI Research Portfolio Oversight and Management:Oversees the flow of research projects from planning to submission through implementation and closeout. Responsibilities include but are not limited to operations management, quality assurance, and regulatory oversight.
Staff Oversight:Supervise any research staff employed to include delegation of responsibilities and performance management.
Financial Involvement:This position will be involved with financial management from a knowledge and understanding perspective so appropriate operational decisions can be made. Partnering with the Division Administrator and various enterprise research & support entities is a crucial requirement so appropriate budgetary and fiscal management can be ensured.
Data Collection, Reporting, and Manuscript Preparation:In collaboration with PIs, this position will be responsible for collecting data and analyzing data, writing, and submitting required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (i.e., IRB) for studies under their purview, as well as assist with revisions and submissions of manuscripts generated for their assigned portfolio.
Additional Job Description
Experience: Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to lab processing required. Experience with laboratory processing for the conduct of clinical trials is preferred. Applicant must be able to exercise judgment and discretion and to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to work collaboratively, respectfully, and appropriately with investigators, research staff, and clinical staff across MUSC entities. Appropriate laboratory certification is preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in health-related science preferred.
