About UNISON
UNISON is a small team of passionate people from companies like Meta, Sony, and Apple, as well as research labs like the IARAI. Based in the SF Bay Area and backed by some of the world’s best investors, we’re working hard to create products we would proudly recommend to our friends and family.
We are building a unified reality headset that allows users to plunge into and resurface from virtual worlds with newfound value. We see living between virtual and physical worlds as a tool for creating, storytelling, and sharing—not hindering your total lived experience. You can learn more about our product, team, careers, and worldviews at unison.co.
About the Role:
Our early-stage start-up is looking for a CAD/Surface Sculptor to support the design and development of our first publicly available VR headset. The CAD/Surface Sculptor will collaborate closely with Industrial Designers and Product Design Engineers who have successfully shipped AR/VR hardware from companies like Apple, Sony, and Meta.
From the early concept stage to the manufacturing and launch, you will own a new discipline within the design team. You will explore, prototype, and build experiences that define the future of how people interact with wearable technology.
Your Responsibilities:
Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception and prototyping to production. You will help us shape ideas into reality.
You will own the production of the class-A surfacing and your workstream.
Work closely with ID to generate rapid concepts.
Ensure all Class-A criteria, such as feasibility, fit and finish, surface quality, and tolerance, meet design and production requirements.
Own and manage a new discipline within the design team. You might need to leverage the CM ID resources to help with the modeling and work with overseas modeling talent (Asia-based).
Your Qualifications:
At least 3+ years (preferably 5+) of experience as a surface modeler on class-A surfaces, working in consumer electronics, wearables, automobiles, AR/VR, or consumer-oriented robotics.
Proficiency in NURBS modeling (Alias, Rhino, etc.)
A good understanding of parametric CAD modeling (NX preferred, Solidworks, etc.)
The ability to work and integrate between the ID and PDE workstreams.
An understanding of the full design and development lifecycle, including ideation, prototyping, development, testing, and tooling.
A willingness to learn and participate in parallel workstreams (Industrial Design, User Experience, Prototyping, Product Design Engineering).
An understanding of basic manufacturing and prototyping techniques.
Experience in industrial design, digital design, model making, product design, or related fields is desired.
Preferably have experience working with an overseas contract manufacturer and/or experience working with Asia supply chain vendors.
Ability to travel, as required, up to 10% (foreign and domestic)
