Northern Trust wins $4.6B UK pension mandate, but scale questions remain

Northern Trust has been appointed by Warwickshire Pension Fund to provide global custody, valuation reporting, capital call execution and performance measurement services. The UK public pension fund manages approximately £3.6 billion in assets. The mandate strengthens Northern Trust's pension-servicing franchise, though contract duration and fees were not disclosed. Warwickshire's assets represent roughly 0.024% of Northern Trust's $20 trillion in assets under custody or administration as of June 30. Warwickshire is one of 18 partner funds in Border to Coast Pensions Partnership. Successful delivery could provide Northern Trust with a reference for additional pension mandates. Northern Trust reported second-quarter custody and fund administration fees of $512.3 million, up approximately 9% year-over-year. Management attributed the growth primarily to favourable markets and net new business.

Citizens snags Northern Trust duo in Florida.

Citizens snags Northern Trust duo in Florida. August 26, 2026 Katie Bickle (left) and Chris MacLellan, who joined Citizens Private Wealth from Northern Trust. Citizens Private Wealth landed a billion-dollar duo from Northern Trust in Florida, according to a spokesperson for the hiring firm. The MacLellan Bickle Wealth Partners team, which is led by Chris MacLellan and Katie Bickle, joined Citizens on Thursday in Tampa, according to the spokesperson. Neither is currently registered as brokers or investment advisors, but the spokesperson said they will be registering as part of their move. "Chris and Katie are 100% first class relationship managers with exceptional backgrounds," Citizens Private Wealth head Tom Metzger said in an interview. Metzger said that the firm is targeting "corner-office-type of advisors and teams" and is hoping to have at least four more sizable recruits this year. "We're less focused on the firm where someone's coming from versus the quality of the advisor and the quality of the relationship that they form with their clients," Metzger said. MacLellan joined Northern Trust seven years ago from Newport Group, a retirement plan provider which merged with Ascensus in 2022, according to LinkedIn. At Northern Trust, he was most recently a senior portfolio advisor. Bickle also joined Northern Trust seven years ago and most recently was a senior trust advisor, according to LinkedIn. Neither advisor immediately responded to requests for comment sent through social media. A spokesperson for Northern Trust, which is based in Chicago operates on a private banking model, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It has 650 "fiduciary professionals," according to its website. Including the latest move, Citizens Private Wealth has added 12 teams managing $10 billion at their former firms since 2024, according to the company spokesperson. Most of its hires have come from more traditional brokerage firms or private banks. In recent months, Citizens landed two California-based teams each managing $800 million from Morgan Stanley and Citigroup. Citizens has been building out its Private Wealth unit in part to serve well-heeled banking customers acquired through its recruitment of dozens of former relationship managers from failed First Republic Bank. The Private Wealth unit is led by Metzger, who had been a private wealth executive at First Republic and briefly led its broker recruiting efforts prior to the parent bank's collapse in 2023. Metzger joined Citizens in January 2024. The 16-person team is led by Michael A. Bober and Ettore D. Ventrice. Aug 25, 2026 Aug 19, 2026 Aug 17, 2026 Aug 13, 2026 Aug 12, 2026
