Requirements
  • Qualified candidates will have a background in teaching STEM topics and demonstrate a passion for supporting all learners through a culturally responsive lens.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or beyond preferred. Massachusetts Department of Education licensure, or the ability to meet the licensure requirements, preferred.
  • Experience mentoring and/or teaching students from diverse backgrounds preferred.
  • Experience working with middle school students preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will embody Mass Academy’s mission and core values. Ability to work collaboratively required.
  • Participate in mandatory training for all staff.
Responsibilities
  • Must be available July 6 through July 17
  • Teaching schedule: Hours vary based on teaching schedule, but will include one hour of planning time and daily meetings. Program hours are 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Teach a STEM-related course to middle school students using engaging project- and/or inquiry-based methods while also building technical skills and addressing learning gaps
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment for all students; enforce program rules in a fair and consistent manner
  • Assess student progress toward learning targets and differentiate instruction to provide a program that meets the academic needs of each student
  • Develop a project-based course curriculum that aligns with the goals of the Junior Academy program
  • Maintain up-to-date lesson plans and materials for the two-week summer STEM course
  • Actively participate in Junior Academy team meetings
  • Work collaboratively with other Junior Academy staff, including teaching assistants assigned to the course
  • Effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff
  • Participate in other aspects of the Junior Academy program (eg. morning meeting and team building activities)
  • Participate in mandatory training for all staff
  • Other duties as assigned
