Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • APRN License Type/Certification: FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): birth to death; Stable chronic disease state management; primary care across the lifespan.
  • APRN License Type/Certification: AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult patients (13 years to death); stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are current and complete prior to start date.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification are current and complete prior to start date.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
  • All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date.
  • Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Physician Assistant or APRN with AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) certification.
  • Required Training: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and licensure/eligibility as above.
Responsibilities
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs as required by policies and state law.
  • Provide care to oncology patients with urgent needs and staff rapid access clinic.
  • Provide coverage in North Charleston, Hollings Cancer Center, Health East Cooper, Health West infusion suites, and supervise care provided by infusion nurses.
  • Coordinate initiation of therapy, review labs, support physicians ordering, and sign off on all infusion encounters.
  • Receive and triage infusion patient phone calls; respond to routine questions and refer complex issues to physician as necessary.
  • Rotating infusion suite coverage on weekends (~1 in 12 weeks) and holidays (~1 per year).
  • Precept Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant students.
  • Oversee daily deployment of Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to Charleston Division Infusion Centers: coordination of weekday and weekend coverage between satellites, hospitals, and outpatient areas.
  • Serve as liaison between APPs, Infusion Center leadership, Department leadership, and collaborating physicians.
  • Attend APP Best Practice Center monthly leadership meeting and participate in core duties, projects, cascades communication.
  • Identify learning needs for APPs and provide learning experiences; inform APPs about professional issues and trends.
  • Ensure standardization of advanced practice processes between patient care services and collaborative teams.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and credentialing, competencies, and professional standards for all APPs in the service line.
  • Recruit, hire, and facilitate training and orientation; manage performance; provide ongoing feedback.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred Training: Physician Assistant or AP RN with AGACNP/ACNP certification.
  • Preferred Experience: 3 years of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in an infusion clinic in addition to leadership/managerial role or advanced leadership education.
