Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is required.
  • The employee must comply with infection control, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Agency for Health Care Administration regulations and risk-management requirements.
  • The employee must attend mandatory educational programs and annual in-service training.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update patient records and perform administrative activities for the assigned unit in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and functional work area at the nursing station.
  • Greet patients, visitors, callers, and other customers; handle inquiries and direct them to the appropriate person or area.
  • Communicate courteously with patients, family members, nurses, and physicians.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages, answer routine questions, and transfer calls to appropriate areas or individuals using hospital-designated scripting.
  • Maintain patient charts in the appropriate order.
  • Initiate and assemble admission charts within 15 minutes of patients' arrival to the unit.
  • Prepare patient welcome packets and folders.
  • Complete the clean-room checklist for every room before patient arrival.
  • Send pertinent information and forms to the receiving unit when patients are transferred.
  • Record and deliver messages.
  • Maintain appropriate logs.
  • Ensure appropriate resources, equipment, and supplies are available.
  • Use universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines.
  • Use time constructively and organize work to accomplish assigned responsibilities.
  • Follow facility, departmental, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Comply with the employee Code of Ethics and Standards of Behavior.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
