Requirements
  • At least two years of relevant experience as a cook in a restaurant or similar environment, such as the New York City Department of Homeless Services or another similar city-operated organization.
  • Food Protection Certificate.
  • Good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
  • Ensure sanitation, health, and safety standards are maintained in work areas.
  • Measure ingredients required for specific foods to be prepared.
  • Wash, cut, chop, and prepare foods designated for cooking.
  • Follow the menu in preparing meals.
  • Follow recipes in cooking meals.
  • Clean, stock, and restock the workstation and supply area.
  • Follow personal sanitation standards before, during, and after cooking food.
  • Order and take delivery of food and supplies.
  • Comply with nutrition, sanitary, and safety regulations and standards.
