Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is an added advantage
  • 8–12 years of experience in substation or HVDC civil and structural design
  • Performed substation or HVDC civil/structural design independently
  • Hands on experience in HVDC converter stations is highly preferred
  • AIS & GIS substation experience is mandatory
  • Experience in EPC power transmission or utility-scale infrastructure projects is strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HVDC, AIS and GIS substation civil engineering practices
  • Proficiency in design and analysis tools such as STAAD, ETABS, SAP2000
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM / 3D drafting tools
  • Competency in MS Office, MS Excel, Mathcad for engineering calculations and documentation
  • Good understanding of civil–electrical–mechanical interfaces impacting plant design

Responsibilities
  • Perform civil and structural design for HVDC converter stations, AIS & GIS substations, including: Valve halls, control buildings, GIS buildings, Pre-Engineered Building structures; Foundations for transformers, reactors, harmonic filters, AC yard and GIS equipment; Steel structures- gantries, girders, towers, equipment support structures (lattice / pipe type); Cable trenches, drainage systems, roads, and utility structures
  • Prepare and review GA drawings, structural layouts, design calculations, Single Line Diagram of structures and checking of detailed fabrication drawing and construction drawings prior to customer submission
  • Proto inspection, correction requirement arises during proto stage, BOM preparation
  • Ensure optimized and technically correct designs using appropriate grades of MS and high-tensile steel members to ensure overall profitability
  • Interface with Electrical and Mechanical engineering teams to receive equipment loads, clearances and interface data timely in standard interface format
  • Coordinate with OEMs for civil design inputs, load data, and technical clarifications
  • Review and validate OEM civil and structural documents to ensure compliance with EPC scope, specifications and standards
  • Coordinate with MEP, vendors and suppliers for integrated design solutions
  • Take ownership of business KPIs with a hands-on approach, while following defined processes and contributing to continuous improvement
  • Support tender and project execution teams with civil design concepts, estimates, and technical clarifications
  • Prepare and verify BOQs and civil/structural cost estimates during tender and execution stages
  • Participate in proto inspections, resolve design issues and support BOM preparation
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering documents aligned with project schedules
  • Apply relevant Indian Standards (IS) and international codes such as ACI, BS, Eurocodes
  • Follow EPC quality systems and QMS-driven engineering processes
  • Incorporate safety-by-design and EHS principles in all engineering deliverables
  • Maintain proper documentation and design traceability throughout the project lifecycle

GE Vernova secures $6M state funding for $96M energy research centre in Niskayuna

GE Vernova has secured an additional $6 million in state funding for its $96 million Advanced Research Center on Balltown Road in Niskayuna, New York. The grant, awarded through the FAST NY programme, will fund water supply, road and stormwater management upgrades at the campus, offsetting roughly half of the $12 million in required infrastructure improvements. The company previously received $9.6 million in state tax credits linked to plans for creating 75 new jobs at the research centre, along with low-cost hydropower allocation. The site, separate from GE Vernova's existing River Road labs, will house energy technology research including a direct air capture carbon system currently under testing. GE Vernova earned nearly $5 billion in 2025 on $38 billion in revenue, with a market value of $242 billion.

ThinkLabs raises $28M USD Series A to help power grids handle AI data centre demand

ThinkLabs has raised $28 million USD ($39 million CAD) in a Series A round led by Energy Impact Partners to help power grids manage surging demand from AI data centres. Nvidia's venture fund NVentures and Edison International participated, alongside returning investors including GE Vernova. The Canadian-led, New York-based startup provides physics-informed AI software that creates digital twins of power grids, simulating scenarios to help operators maintain reliability and reduce outages. The platform reduces what would typically be a six-month, quarter-million-dollar study to under a day's analysis. Founded by former Toronto Hydro smart-grid department head Josh Wong, ThinkLabs spun out of GE Vernova in early 2024 with $6.8 million CAD in seed funding. The company will use the new capital to mature its product and expand features whilst focusing on the North American market.

Trump and Japan unveil up to $40B US nuclear reactor plan

President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have unveiled a US-Japan energy investment plan potentially worth $40 billion, centring on small modular nuclear reactors. GE Vernova and Hitachi will develop BWRX-300 reactors in Tennessee and Alabama, whilst Japan will invest up to $33 billion in natural gas plants in Pennsylvania and Texas. The initiative forms part of a broader $550 billion bilateral investment fund agreed under a recent trade pact. It aims to address rising electricity demand from data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure. However, most SMR designs await regulatory approval and none have been deployed on US grids. The agreement also covers critical minerals and industrial supply chains, with Japanese firms contributing components and participating in rare-earth projects across Indiana, Arizona and North Carolina.
