The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our established and dynamic team, where growth opportunities abound. As an integral member, you'll delve into hands-on development and improvement of AWS cloud platforms. Here's what you'll do: 

• Improve and extend our scalable cloud platform while facilitating the storage, processing and retrieval of data such as point clouds and imagery at the petabyte scale; 
• Work alongside our data scientists to deploy algorithms and machine learning at scale;
• Engage key technical stakeholders to build requirements for future development;
• Maintain the integrity and high availability of our platform and cloud-based services.

This role forms part of our R&D team, part of our innovation department with a strong focus on automating complex spatial data analysis workflows, and providing information to clients via intuitive web-based interfaces. Real world data (LIDAR point clouds, imagery, sonar scan and multi-beam) is captured remotely by vessels, autonomous underwater vehicles, planes or helicopters. Data is uploaded to AWS and distilled to provide clients insights via the use of modern machine learning, scalable cloud computing, and 3D visualisation approaches.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to: 

• Have an engineering mindset, passionate about building resilient and scalable software;
• Experienced in software development using programming languages such as Typescript, C#, Java, C++ and Python;
• Have understanding of AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, EC2, Lambda, SQS and IAM or experience building cloud stacks in AWS SDK/CDK;
• Have knowledge of source code management, CI/CD, semantic versioning or other DevOps concepts to apply in GitHub and GitHub Actions;
• Be an avid learner who loves driving agile software development processes with the team with strong communication skills in dealing with stakeholders. 

Extra things we value:

• A practical understanding of algorithmic complexity, data structures, and methods to accelerate access to data (such as spatial indexing);
• Experience with horizontal scaling of workloads and working knowledge of GIS concepts and data types;
• Experience working with sensors, sensor data or geo-positioning and scientific computing (e.g. with Julia, MATLAB, R, etc);
• A Master’s or PhD in a technical discipline (or equivalent).
