Requirements
  • At least one year of experience performing ultrasound examinations.
  • A New York State license as an Ultrasound Technologist.
  • Training in ultrasound systems.
  • Computer knowledge.
Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, vascular, small-parts, neonatal-brain, and obstetrical studies, using portable equipment when required.
  • Perform Doppler studies of the carotids, abdomen, pelvis, small parts, and peripheral vascular system.
  • Perform intracavity endovaginal and endorectal ultrasound studies.
  • Perform localizations for invasive procedures under ultrasound guidance.
  • Schedule patients for sonography and arrange patient preparation.
  • Use the hospital computer system according to job responsibilities and hospital policy.
  • Instruct and provide clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in the relevant area of expertise.
  • Give verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to physicians.
  • Deliver assessment, treatment, and patient-care responsibilities appropriately for the ages and developmental stages of patients served.
  • Maintain departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality-assurance programs, safety standards, environmental standards, and infection-control standards.
  • Individualize each examination based on the patient’s clinical history while functioning independently.
  • Transport patients to and from Ultrasound as required and provide patient comfort measures such as bedpans and blankets.
  • Stay current with diagnostic sonography trends and techniques through technical journals, in-service education, and conferences.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Maintain positive, professional, courteous, and appropriate relationships with patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Participate in departmental performance and quality-improvement activities, including data collection, analysis, risk-management and claims activities, Continuous Quality Improvement teams, and compliance with BronxCare policies.
  • Follow safety and security, incident-reporting, infection-control, patient-service, and customer-service policies.
