Requirements
  • A master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required.
  • At least 8 years of experience designing and debugging printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) is required.
  • Proficiency in Altium Designer or similar electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) tools is required.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power analyzers, is required.
  • Knowledge of digital buses, including I2C, SPI, UART, RS422, CAN, USB, PCIe, and Ethernet, is required.
  • Familiarity with board bring-up, test planning, and design verification workflows is required.
  • Experience interacting with contract manufacturers, supporting design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews, and resolving production issues is required.
  • Experience designing for harsh environments such as thermal, vacuum, and vibration conditions is required.
  • Familiarity with high-speed design or impedance-controlled layouts is required.
  • Basic scripting or automation experience in Python or C for hardware test workflows is required.
  • Exposure to radiation effects and mitigation in electronic design is required.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC) design practices and validation is required.
  • Familiarity with satellite electrical systems engineering, including propulsion, electrical power systems, global navigation satellite systems, attitude determination and control systems, and space robotics, is required.
  • The candidate must satisfy applicable U.S. export-control authorization requirements, such as qualifying as a U.S. person or obtaining the required government authorization.
Responsibilities
  • Own the full electrical design lifecycle for complex spaceflight hardware, including concept of operations, requirements engineering, schematic capture, layout, bring-up, testing, and manufacturing handoff.
  • Develop robust analog and digital designs for mission-critical systems under environmental and performance constraints.
  • Organize collaborative cross-disciplinary design reviews, share feedback, and shape solutions with experienced engineers.
  • Provide input to schedule planning, hardware requirements, and process improvements.
  • Lead board-level bring-up and debugging while integrating firmware, software, and field-programmable gate arrays/system-on-chip (FPGA/SoC) with embedded systems.
  • Define test plans and verification strategies that meet flight-readiness requirements.
  • Help scale the manufacturing facility by bringing hardware from prototype to low-volume production.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, radio-frequency (RF), software, FPGA/SoC, and systems teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and contribute to internal process improvements.
  • Engage with external vendors and contract manufacturers to ensure delivery quality, resolve DFM and design-for-test (DFT) issues, and support on-time delivery.
  • Drive failure analysis and root-cause investigations across flight or test anomalies.

IonQ sells quantum computing through cloud access and on-site systems that use trapped-ion qubits. Its processors, such as Forte and Tempo, are accessed by customers via cloud platforms or deployed on customer sites, and the company is expanding into quantum networking, quantum key distribution, and sensing through acquisitions and a SkyWater Technology deal. Pentagon awards IonQ $58M contract to produce shoebox-sized quantum clocks

IonQ has secured a $28 million contract modification from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop optical atomic clocks, with an option for an additional $30 million. The Maryland-based quantum technology company will produce 25 Evergreen-05 optical atomic clocks initially, with the potential for 100 more units if the option is exercised.
