Requirements
  • At least one year minimum of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist experience.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse licensure and registration.
  • Certified as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in epidurals and blocks, moderate sedation, general and local anesthetic and analgesic techniques.
  • Current certification of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • At least 2 to 4 years of experience in patient care setting.
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records Systems.
  • Experience working in Critical Care Units, Operating and Recovery Rooms.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
Responsibilities
  • Administers anesthetics and monitors patients in the operating room
  • Participates with Attending Physician in pre-operative assessment, formulation and implementation of the anesthetic plan, and initiation of the post-operative pain regimen.
  • Accurately records anesthetics and plan of care in the medical record
  • Transfers patients from the operating room to the post anesthesia care unit with appropriate monitoring and interventions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using a needleless system.
  • Demonstrates the proper use and storage of controlled substances.
  • Promotes a team-centered approach to facilitate the achievement of clinical, department and work group goals.
  • In conjunction with Attending Physician, performs a thorough and completed pre-anesthesia assessment.
  • Responsible for obtaining and reviewing relevant tests and discussing findings with the Attending.
  • Obtains and/or verifies that an informed consent has been obtained for the planned anesthetic intervention from the patient or legal guardian.
  • Discusses anesthetic options and risks with the patient and/or legal guardian after discussion with Attending Physician. Documents in the patient's medical record informed consent consistent with services provided or anticipated.
