Requirements
  • Safe and competent use of laboratory equipment and software.
  • Ability to prioritize workflow by medical necessity and priority.
  • Ability to answer telephone inquiries, including specimen requirement information.
  • Ability to register patients and perform blood and urine collections according to procedures and age-specific guidelines.
  • Ability to perform therapeutic phlebotomies, paternity testing, and drug screens.
  • Ability to prepare specimens for testing, storage, or export and resolve specimen or order discrepancies.
  • Ability to perform billing functions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to order and maintain department supplies, including specimen collection kits, trays, and office supplies.
  • Ability to maintain sanitary conditions and follow isolation procedures and protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Greet laboratory patients.
  • Perform order entry.
  • Collect blood and urine specimens.
  • Prepare specimens for testing, storage, or export.
  • Prepare reports for export or storage as required.
  • Register patients and perform blood and urine collections according to procedures and age-specific guidelines.
  • Perform therapeutic phlebotomies, paternity testing, and drug screens.
  • Perform billing functions timely.
  • Order department supplies from Material Management to maintain specimen collection kits, trays, and office supplies.
  • Orient new lab aide employees as required.
