Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in exercise science, physical education, exercise psychology, behavioral science, or a health-related field and three or more years of wellness-field experience, or five or more years of wellness-field experience.
  • At least one year of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to recognize and implement safety standards in all program activities.
  • Strong human relations and conflict management skills.
  • The ability to communicate and manage information effectively for program participants, community leaders, volunteers, and staff of all ages.
  • Proficient knowledge of computers, technology, and applications.
  • The ability to multitask, work independently, solve problems, and manage time effectively.
  • The ability to complete Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of fitness-related issues, including aerobic and anaerobic exercise, nutrition, exercise benefits, and injury prevention.
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a criminal record check, drug screening, motor vehicle record check, and reference check.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a plan for wellness and group exercise program growth aligned with the branch budget, goals, and association initiatives.
  • Assume overall responsibility for wellness and group exercise programs.
  • Manage budgets and hold staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the Wellness Department, including employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement plans to attract and recruit new members and corporate partnerships.
  • Conduct pilots for new programs and develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.
  • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Become trained in the Weight Loss for Life curriculum, support coaches, and assist in leading group sessions.
  • Foster a climate of innovation.
  • Monitor progress toward branch goals by running and reviewing necessary reports.
  • Lead the Y's presence in community outreach, including the WHY IT MATTERS campaign.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provide ongoing support to the Director on related issues.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in exercise science, physical education, exercise psychology, behavioral science, or a health-related field.
  • A current national group exercise or personal training certification from a YMCA of the USA-recognized national organization, such as ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or NETA.
  • Five or more years of wellness program experience.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification.
  • Prior program and people management experience.
  • Budget management and program start-up experience.
  • Knowledge of THE COACH APPROACH®.

The Atlanta Voice celebrates 60 years with a Midday Open House of impact & inspiration. The Atlanta Voice opened its doors to the community for a joyful Midday Open House, marking six decades of storytelling, advocacy, and community connection. The celebration was more than an anniversary - it was a vibrant reflection of the publication's mission to inform, uplift, and empower Metro Atlanta. Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed a lively drop-in experience that blended nostalgia with forward-thinking energy. From guided peeks into current initiatives to sneak previews of what's launching next, visitors got a firsthand look at how The Atlanta Voice continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. WAREhouse Studio buzzed with conversation as longtime supporters, community partners, and new friends mingled with The Atlanta Voice staff. Laughter and stories filled the air as attendees shared memories of the publication's impact and envisioned the next 60 years together. Light bites, sweet treats, and refreshing drinks kept the celebration flowing, with a special thank you to its incredible vendors - 360 Photo Booth Eventz, World Renowned Catering, Courtney's Creations of Atlanta, and Jailan Jagne - for adding flavor, fun, and flair to the day. "This milestone isn't just about where we've been - it's about where we're headed," said Publisher Janis Ware. "The Atlanta Voice has always been about amplifying the voices of our community, and that mission continues stronger than ever." The Atlanta Voice were deeply honored to welcome Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, who stopped by to share reflections and gratitude for The Atlanta Voice's legacy of truth-telling and community service. His words inspired the crowd and reminded everyone how local journalism continues to shape the future of its city. The Atlanta Voice also extend heartfelt thanks to Fulton County Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr., who presented an official proclamation recognizing The Atlanta Voice's 60 years of excellence and enduring service to Metro Atlanta.
