Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor degree required for new hires, with consideration for ADN nurses who are currently or plan to transition to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- At least 18 months of nursing experience required; previous experience in an emergency room strongly preferred.
- Current Texas licensed registered nurse; Basic Life Support certification; other certifications as required by unit/service.
- Must be able to perform skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable.
- Basic computer skills; ability to write and speak effectively in English; competencies and training as listed in Policy NU-903, Competence of Nursing Staff and HR 07 Competency Assessment.
- Current RN license in good standing; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR.
- Ability to meet additional qualifications implied by the job posting (e.g., 2+ years of nursing experience in critical care as a potential preference).
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to a patient team with potentially varied and complex needs.
- Assume leadership roles with progressive responsibility including participating in or leading unit and shared governance initiatives.
- Serve as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees.
- Contribute to service line or hospital-wide initiatives when appropriate.
