  • Micron collected $22 billion in customer deposits, funding capacity before 2028 output.
  • HBM4 entered high-volume production in 2026, and HBM4E ramps in 2027.

What critics are saying

  • Micron said new fabs will not materially add output until fiscal 2028.
  • Samsung and SK Hynix are shipping HBM4E samples, threatening Micron’s 2027 pricing power.
  • China’s 2023 ban still blocks Micron server sales, keeping a major market impaired.

What makes Micron Technology unique

Trump praises Micron as 'hottest' company one day after Nvidia disclosed $279B in memory commitments

President Trump called Micron Technology one of the world's "hottest" companies on Wednesday, a day after Nvidia disclosed $279 billion in supplier purchase commitments, primarily for memory procurement. Nvidia's fiscal Q2 2027 revenue reached $96.22 billion, up 106% year over year. Nvidia's CFO warned that memory scarcity driven by AI build-out is causing extreme pricing conditions, with prices expected to continue rising into fiscal 2028. The company maintains relationships with all three major memory suppliers. Trump praised Micron's $10 billion AI memory research lab in Idaho and its $250 billion US manufacturing commitment through 2035. According to 2025 financial disclosures, Trump holds between $1.67 million and $6.65 million in Micron stock. Western Digital dropped 4% whilst SK Hynix gained 1%.

Micron shares fall 2% despite AI boom as memory shortage threatens Nvidia supply

Micron Technology saw its share price swing from a 3.6% premarket gain to roughly 2% lower on Thursday, closing at $919.105. The volatility stems from concerns that the memory shortage driving Micron's profits could simultaneously constrain Nvidia's accelerator shipments and delay AI infrastructure spending. Micron's latest quarterly results showed $41.46 billion in revenue with an 84.6% gross margin and $18.3 billion in adjusted free cash flow, compared to just $9.3 billion in revenue a year earlier. Despite the strong performance, the stock trades 52.17% above its $604.01 GF Value estimate, suggesting investors have already priced in years of tight supply and premium pricing. The price reversal highlights market sensitivity when expectations reach elevated levels.

Nvidia surges 9% on earnings, chipmakers account for 37% of S&P 500's $7.6T gains as Big Tech slumps

Nvidia's shares surged 9% Thursday after doubling sales and projecting strong growth, lifting chipmakers and the broader market. The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 1.57%, whilst the S&P 500 gained 0.82%. Semiconductor companies now account for 37% of the S&P 500's $7.6 trillion market value gains this year, according to JonesTrading. Chipmakers like Micron Technology have soared 220% over the past year. However, Big Tech stocks have declined from recent peaks. Microsoft fell 6% since October, whilst Alphabet and Amazon remain below recent highs. Apple has dropped nearly 7% from this month's record. Analysts warn the market's heavy reliance on chip stocks presents risks. If semiconductor firms struggle, the broader market could face trouble, notes Capital Economics.

Micron appoints two presidents to lead AI chip expansion after 3x stock surge

Micron Technology appointed two senior executives to accelerate growth amid rising AI-driven demand for memory chips. Manish Bhatia becomes president and chief operating officer, overseeing global operations, manufacturing, and customer demand. Scott DeBoer takes on president and chief technology and products officer, leading memory and storage technology development. Both appointments are effective immediately. Bhatia joined Micron in 2017, whilst DeBoer has been with the company since 1995. The moves position Micron to scale production as AI infrastructure spending increases. The company posted record third-quarter sales of $41.46 billion and expects $50 billion in the current quarter. Micron is shipping HBM4 memory in high volumes, with HBM4E production planned for 2027. Micron shares rose following the announcement.

Micron stock could hit $460 or $1,884 in 13 months, options market suggests

Micron Technology's stock trades at $932.97, with options markets pricing extreme volatility ahead. Contracts expiring in thirteen months suggest two-in-three odds the shares will finish between $460 and $1,884 — roughly half to double the current price. The stock's implied volatility of 68.1% actually understates recent movement, which hit 81.7% realised volatility over the past year. Micron returned 694.1% over twelve months but has cooled recently, adding just 4.2% in the past three months. The volatility stems from memory pricing swings. Operating margin reached 65.7% on $90.27 billion revenue, against a three-year average of 11.2%. Management has signed 16 take-or-pay agreements to stabilise earnings, but these cover only about 20% of DRAM volume and a third of NAND volume, leaving most revenue exposed to commodity price cycles.
